alright. say i wanted to control a segmented LCD, VFD, or LED display. one with 7-segment-plus-decimal-point character spaces. how could i possibly do this using a parallel port? i'd like to display cycling/scrolling system information, like current processor speed/usage, case temps, messages, etc. in linux as well as windows.

reason i want to do this is because i have easy access to old desktop calculators with very readable displays which would be really cool to use.

    thanks a ton guys!

I would also be interested in this, as I can get massive calculator screens for less than £1. One method I have seen is to "type" + 1, then send pulses to the = key. Trouble is, cheap calculators might not be able to sample the pulses fast enough.
