yeah I tried soldering the last 4 remaining pinouts to the chip itself, but there so close together, and with my l33t soldering skills , i managed to screw it up pretty badly. But the good thing is, it worked for about a minute, I got the screen of solid boxes, like its supposed to get when theres no data, but soon after that it died, and I could never get it fixed again. But the good news is thats its possible!
Hy guys, long time away the forum.... I'm still on vacation (using my uncle's PC to read the last news!!! )... Anyway, I'm still searching here and there a spare FD/HD flat cable to set up the connection cable... I think this kind of cable is more suitable than standard wire when soldering directly on chip pins... As soon as I'm back home, I'll set up my lab to test this f***ing LCD.... TrumpetSteve: I'm really sad in hearing about your dead LCD .... What kind of display was it? BTW, Happy New Year GeeK!
ehh it cost me only 4.95 for just the lcd, so Im not at THAT much of a loss, the only good thing about was the blue el backlight, which is the only thing that actually worked. Oh well, at least it wasn't an expensive one, Ill just make sure and check that its 8-bit next time I buy one. I used a floppy cable, and it was harder to contain the solder, than solder the wire to the pins. So dont use too much solder like I did.
THREAD RESURRECTION!!! Finally I managed to solder some FD cable to my module..... Fired it up before connecting it to my laptop....... Yep, the display goes on and the first row is full of black squares.... Next step is to plug it into my laptop..... Buuuuahahahahaa The second row is now filled by black squares too! I've installed the I/O port driver and LCDSmartie, but it seems it doesn't work..... Any suggestion? GeeK!
You've wired this up in 4bit mode? I don't think smartie supports 4 bit transfer... you wouldn't expect to see much anyway. There are very few programs I've seen with 4bit parallel modes. Rob.
NO, I've wired it in 8bit mode, I mean I've soldered the four missing data lines directly to the LCD controller. I've checked everything with a multimeter and it seems OK. Going to check connections on the LPT port. GeeK!
Be sure and tell us if it works - last time I wired up a 4-bit the 8-bit way I never even got it to power up - It may have been dead to begin with. I dunno.
#@@€#€@[{[]]><<<<< I was cleaning up all my solderings near the display controller but a f@@@@@g cable touched two IC pins....... So now I have a big soldering bubble on THREE pins of the IC.... I think I must consider it dead The display worked for sure...... Bah, I'll wait the next broken phone and I'll try again... GeeK!
Grab a roll of de-soldering braid and see if you can't pull that excess solder off of there.... desoldering braid is your friend for removing those ooops's.
