ok this is going to sound slightly odd but the when you right click a file and you get the send to option. you know the one send to desktop etc well its vanished ? does anyone know how to re-enable it nothing new has been installed and nothings been uninstalled just come in this morning to find it gone I'm now officially confused
Check the SendTo folder under C:\Docs&Settings\<YourUserName>\ (it's hidden so change View settings to show hidden stuff) for the 'Send to Desktop' file. If it's missing you can maybe copy the one under 'DefaultUser'. Or you can recreate by dragging a shortcut to the desktop path into that folder, and see MS KB If you mean you've no 'Send to' item listed on the context menu when right-clicking on a file, see here for the reg script to put it back.
Slightly off-topic but now that the solution's been given... Here's a handy tip - If you make a short cut to the Send To folder and place it inside the Send To folder itself, you can add frequently used folders and/or programs with a simple Rt Click -> Send To -> Send To.
I tired doing that on Vista so I could just use Send To move files to a folder such as Documents. But instead of moving it, it just makes a copy. Anyone have any luck getting that to work with Vista?
It probably had been like that but I want it to actually move the file and not just copy it. As in copy, I mean to leave the original file and duplicate it in a different location.
Sounds like you need something like Send To Toys*. This will apparently do what you're after by using the Shift key as a modifier, but the default behaviour was copy. *Haven't used it personally
