    Yeah man!

Everyone knows you have to do funky mic checks if you're going to be doing a headset review.

An SPL of 114db for headphones? Dang man! Wish they didn't sport such a premium price though :\

    *hugs his sennies* :D

How well did your sound card drive them? My sennies have a rated impedance od 32 ohms also but even my amp struggles to drive them well, let alone my Terratec...

My next headset will be the Zalman 5.1 headphones within I will be modding a custom mic to so it will be a headset also.

Well, I used them in the USB capacity most of the time so there was no real issue there. Even with onboard sound through the analog connection there were no power issues.

TBH, I never really took these past half way on the volume setting in either connection configuration. With the pads providing so much noise cancellation there isn't much need for a lot of signal power to get real good sound.

About the price. One thing that annoyed me about this product was I found the PC 150's at my favorite online pc parts outlet for around $60. The only difference between the PC150's and the 155's is the USB adaptor. Paying $60-70 for the USB adaptor is insane (and borderline criminal) really. But the 150's are reasonably priced IMHO and well worth it.

"They are heavy for this size and style of headphones which is an indicator of quality of build."

    So heavy = good quality?!

Headphones should be as light as possible so that they don't get uncomfortable after a while. Plus, weight is meaningless when trying to measure durability, what matters is the actual build quality - the type and strength of the materials, particularly at the joins.

Personally, I prefer some HD 495s for gaming, with a mic mounted at the bottom of the monitor or clipped on my shirt (like they do with TV mics). The HD 495s are lighter and more comfortable, being very open. There does not seem to be any significant sound bleed to the mic.

For music, I use some Stax SR-3s with an SRD-6... a bit over 30 years old now but still very hard to beat for under a couple of grand. Yamaha sound cards don't have much acceleration for 3D sound, but do give a much better output than the usual on board Realtek or C-Media chipsets. Actually, I find the Realtek chipsets are actually a lot better than some of the more expensive Creative offerings like the Audigy. I think simplicity is the key there.

Heavy doesn't automatically mean good quality. The band across the top of the head is a wide/solid piece of plastic, not something you normally see on a set of phones. They are extreamly durable and well built was my point. I have worn these for stretches of over 6 hours and never had a problem with comfort. There are so many padded contact points (across the top of your head and the well padded earpieces) that the weight of them does not come into play as far as comfort is concerned.

I agree that light as possible is a positive atribute to PC headphones but that also translates into flimsy construction sometimes. People who check them out will know what I am talking about with the weight/construction aspects as compared to your typical PC gaming headset.

Yeah I have to REALLY turn the volume up with my HD570's... apart from their low impedance, they're great 'phones :D

    Nice review young padwan

I'm thinking about buying the pc 150 at ecost.

    http://www.ecost.com/ecost/ecsplash/shop/detail.asp?dpno=265386

    On senn's site http://www.sennheisercommunications.com/pr-pcheadsets.html

they say that the pc 155's have an adjustable mic...it doesn't say this on the pc 150. If the ONLY difference between the two is the USB then Im definately gonna but the 150's and save about 70 bucks. But, i heard someone saying that the 150's don't come with and integrated sound card. Is this true and does the pc 150 have an adjustable mic??

I haven't actually had the P150's in my mitts but I have to believe that the actual headset is exactly the same which would mean the mic is adjustable.

To say that the P150's don't have "integrated sound card" actually just refers to this part:

Which I referred to as the USB Converter in my review. Without this part, you essentially have a standard set of headphones that you plug into your sound card. I have used my P155's without the USB converter (connected to my Logitech speaker jack) and the work just as well. That specific part is the only thing that differenciates the P155's from the P150's to my knowledge.

I still highly recommend these phones. I have been using them on a daily basis ever since this review and they are still the best headsets I have ever used for gaming.
