I've never understood why a vegetarian believes that a vegetable is more worthy of death than say... a fish or pig. The only arguement I have heard is that of intelligence. My answer is "Who the hell are you to determain who lives or who dies by their intelligence?! - does not a stupid man have as much right to live as a smart man?" What are your thoughts? I know I sound against veggies p), but I just want to know why....?!
I think that doesn't makes sense, llama, as our body is made to live on meat as well as vegetables. We're constructed that way. And yes, I know we can live on vegetables alone, but it's harder and not healthier for your body. But that's just my humble opinion
The best is to find a balance. My balance is mostly that I eat alot of meat and not so much vegetables. That is not the most healty thing to do, but I still live. All humans are carnivores, and it is unnaturally not to eat meat. So even if you don't eat alot of meat, at least eat some. It's worse with those people who don't eat anything made from animals, even if it's just eggs or milk. Those guys tend to get vitamin deficiencies and such.
Humans are omnivores, so they can eat both. The idea is to eat enough of both so that you remain healthy; too much of one can make you defficient in vitamins, stuff like that, and therefore, ill. Just eat what we've evolved eating - everything.
Eat too many carrots and youll die of vitamin A poisoning I can understand people not liking the taste or texture of meat. That's fair, cause i dont like every vegtable on the planet. Or if its cause of religious beliefts - they cant get koshure/halal meat easily. However, those that argue the cute little animals are getting hurt then run off to PETA every time someone swats a fly ive no sympathy for. We are omnivore's we eat both. I dont have a mouth like a cow and all flat teeth, i have a mouth with both canines/incisors (sp?) and molars for doing both. I have the enzymes for breaking down protien in my gut too - WHY? cause we are designed that way. Meat is just as healthy if you eat a balance of red and white, or just white i spose and dont soak it in fat to cook it. They complain of the crap that goes into stuff like mince, but then buy a 100% meat steak and make your own if you are that fussy - my nan used to. I can see however how it is expensive for students, but still, i cant do without SOME meat in my diet otherwise i start to go a little mad with just veggies all the time.
The human digestive system is actually designed for a herbivorous diet and later evolved for an omnivorous diet. Meat would be less healthy because it invariably contains more fat. That said there is an amount of fat that needs to be consumed without which the body will have serious problems. As long as you get your required nutrients, either meat or vegetavbles are fine.
short story ya those type of people are called Vegans, and I have run into one at my old job in a store, I worked in the produce area and a vegan strated cewying me out calleing me names saying that its people like me that we are going back to the stone age cause of eating meat. So I turned around and told him, now watching his face was priceless I just wish I had a chance to take a picture. he walked away from me and started yelling at the guys in the meat dept. As I will say Vegitarians are nice about their choice Vegans are just plain rude. And yes I have a few Vegitairians for friends.
The reason we are omnivores is that humans were smarter back in the day, so why not live of berries and plants if meat was too hard to find? Atleast thats my theory. I love meat, and I like vegtables, hell most of the time they go very well together. If your a vegatarian good for you and if your not good for you also. Each to his own I suppose, where i get annoyed is when vegatarians try to force their ways on you. They get all uptight and go throught a big long speech..(This has happened a few times). I just smile and remind them how many small field animals die during the harvest of vegatables and such. Each to his own but don't try to change me, I love steak and hambugers too much.
I've recently decided to cut down on meats, and eventually go vegetarian, maybe vegan sometime in the future. I've grown tired of meat and how it's always the same. I can much rather live off of vegetables. I loved meat for a long time, but now, it seems like I'd rather just try and go without it and see how I do. I do have a political standing on it, but right now, I'd rather do it for health. Most preparations of meat are really bad for one's body, and I'd rather just go healthy for the next couple years.
I couldn't possibly go without meat. Every (evening) meal I eat has to have some form of meat in it, and I ain't fussy about what it is either. Just so long as it's not sausages. Nasty things them. I'll often have meat in my lunch as well. Can't get enough of it. Faves have to be chicken, lamb, and pork (chop). I probably don't eat enough vegetables, but it's because I invariably cook for one, or sometimes two, and fresh veg is difficult to keep for any great period, and it's too much of a hassle keeping little and buying often, so I normally have frozen veg, but I'm even out of that now. My sister's an (almost) vege, but it's because she did a-level Biology and had to start doing disections which really put her off. I don't think she'd ever really made the connection before between that big thing over there in the field chewing grass is the same thing sat on your plate. I guess I made that connection when I was very young, and as such, couldn't care less. My flatmate's sister is the funniest. She's a vegetarian, for the cute-fluffy reason I believe, yet she goes out 'beating' (is it) for pheasant shooting. hahahaha. Brilliant.
I was a vegitarian for about 18 months...In the end it made me so ill I had to return to being an omnivore. *n
http://www.maddox.xmission.com/grill.html there's a good solution. LOL i don't think it's about the poor animals that are being suffered though... it's that some people think meat's unhealthy.
My g/f does eat meat, but mainly because she doesnt like the taste, its not to do with the ethics. Fair due to her aswell..... she said she feels she would have to eat meat when we decide to have a nipper! Tis very annoying though... she has an extremly fast metabolism (sp) and suffers quite bad from it (if she has sugarry foods, her body burns off all the sugar real fast and leaves here on a downer. BTW, sugars foods include things like white bread, white rice etc!!) she would find it so much easier to cope if she eat meat.... still, after 5 years i still havent been able to make her eat a steak!! I know i could never be a veggie..... first of all, its bl00min nice to eat, secondly, i was quite ill in the summer and ended up accidently cutting out meat (competely lost my appetite) & i ended up losing 2 stones in weight..... which is extremly bad.... went down to 9.5 stone and iam 6'1" !! Since then ive been eating alot more meat, and have been feeling alot better & put more weight on. Have to say my final point.... if a lion saw you in the jungle.... do you think he will give a to$$ about eating you
Also, what is it with women and steaks? If it aint char grilled and tasteless they wont eat it I enjoy soaking up the blood in the chips with a bit of mayo or bbq sause. Tis well nice. URG! MY MAN! RAR! ME MAKE FIRE AND DO STEAK! Rx - lions are pure carnivores though. They dont even consider salad with their human steaks mate
Ahh yes, that one, last time I was playing devil's advocate in a discussion like this I decided to try and chalenge the taboo of cannibalism. We kill and eat other animals - why not other humans too? I bet we'd be quite tasty. There is, of course, the other argument that if you wouldn't kill it yourself you shouldn't eat it. In response to that I'd say I'd probably eat less meat if I had to kill it myself, but I wouldn't stop entirely. If vegetarians don't like the idea of killing animals for their own consumption then that's fine with me, hell my mother won't even wear leather shoes because of it. Unless they're vegan they can get lots of protein etc from other sources such as eggs, cheeses etc. Personally I wouldn't be able to be a vegetarian again, I love my steak and bacon too much mmmmm rare steak, the blood is the best bit! Alaric.
MMMMMMM i raise beef and because of that i am fircely carnivorous i love my stake too just a tad toassted but nice and jucie...ah with ought beef thgere is no life
