What is the laptop make/brand? Your card is capable of 100mBps, but is the laptop?

The Laptop is made by Time (UK based company). The laptop should be able to handle 100mBps.

    Laptop specs

    AMD K6-2 500mhz
    128MB RAM @ 100mhz
    8MB Graphics Card
    12GB Hard Drive
    2xPCMCIA 2x USB.....
    OS - WIN98 SE

Well, I was hoping for the model number so that I could look at its manual from the manufacturers website - but, nevermind, its moot now.

Vi-Kata is right. Your NIC in the laptop is capable of 100mBps traffic. The slot its plugged into is not. Check the manual, verify that the slot is indeed a 16 bit slot. If it is, you are stuck with the slower speed where the laptop is concerned...unless Time has released a BIOS patch for it.

ndtinker, both specs are right, one is 568a and the other 568b, use one of those on each end to make a crossover cable.. :)

Here is a little update on the problem...

I contacted Belkin on Friday and was told to check a few bits in my device manager and what the technician told me was that I have a CardBus controller so I would need a CardBus NIC (32bit). He told me to return the NIC where I purchased it and get the CardBus NIC.

As I have had the card for a month I told him that EBuyer would not take it back unless it was faulty, so he pondered for a while and told me that if I send it back to Belkin he would swap it for the CardBus NIC
