    Hey people.

my server and workstation setup at home is being a bit weird. If I logon to a network profile via my workstation, it stores all the user's files on the HDD of the workstation, and not on the server.

Any ideas how to set it up for storage on the server?

You need to have a network share setup to which you have Profile Path of the user set to, then it will work dandy.

Well I've done that, and now it stores my files in 2 places. One on the server, and another copy on the hdd, no matter which computer I log on with.

The profile is always copied to the hard drive, even if you use roaming profiles.

Sorry to bring back an old thread but, is there a way to get windows to delete the files saved on the HDD of the workstation once the user logs off?
Ive just set up roaming profiles on a domain for someone and they do not want anything to be left on the HDD's of the workstation. Im sure this is possible as they do this on my school domain.

yes it's in group policy Under computer configuration > administrative template > system > user profiles > Delete cached copies of roaming profiles

The raoming profiles look fine as long as that share exisits and that the users as enough permissions to create a folder within your profiles folder (both share level and NTFS level permissions!!!), it's also good practice to use a hidden share for profiles (it keeps people from poking about too much just add a $ to the end of your share name)

folder redirection shouild work, alough as you've mapped the home drive I'm not sure why you'd want your My doc's in a different place, just again check the permissions and also check where the policy is and that it applies to the user in question (and not the computer) on the client pc you can use gpresult in the command prompt to tell you with GPO apply to that user. If your still struggling I'd suggest getting your hand on a study book for the windows 2003 server MCP exam that will cover all the basics with group policy and get you a fiarly useful qualification if you choose to sit the exam at the end.
