I have a Dell P.O.S. laptop with an 802.11b/g wireless card in it. I'm running Server 2003 Enterprise edition. Here's my problem:

My campus WiFi requires WPA authentication in order to use it. When I try and configure the new server to that, it doesn't give it as an option. Here's our dumb guide on how to do it :

http://helpdesk.uafortsmith.edu/Guides/WirelessSetup -- The guide says I need XP SP2 to make WPA available.

I can't run XP SP2 because it says that I'm trying to run it on the wrong version. Is there something I can do about it? New drivers? But where?

Thanks in advance for the help, guys.

why are you running a server OS on a laptop?

you do realise there is little difference between that and XP, right?

Cause I'm tired of the eye candy that XP has. And I'm not going to pay for XP professional. I just prefer this over search dogs and word help safety pins. What do you prefer, Win Server 03 or XP Home?

Xp pro without the eye candy. you can disable all of it somewhere in a dialog box.(mycomp-->properties-->advanced-->performance) and you, as a student, can most probably get it for free or $10. ask about. and don't tell me that copy of 2k3 is legal :eyebrow:

(oh, and i'd happily use Home; it's faster out of the box with less tweaking needed. sure it lacks features but they are not used by me that much anyway.)

and the word safety pin, is in Word, not windows, and is disabled by default in office 2k3 ;)

    Derailed! haha

Do you know, though, if there is a way to get the WPA update for Server 2k3? Cause I haven't found one

It also says that it will accept LEAP authentication. Does anybody know how to enable these (LEAP or WPA) on a Win2k3 box?

Not having W2k3 in front of me right now, I can't say for sure whether it supports WPA or not. If it does, it'll be configurable in a GPO: Start -> Run -> gpedit.msc - have a look in Computer Configuration.

Any Fod's right. Get rid of W2k3 Server and install XP. Disable all of the stuff you don't need. Much better idea than running Server on a lappy :)
