I have a customers PC here with me at work, its running a legit copy of XP Pro, preinstalled by HP. He's trying to share some folders, and setup some user accounts but is having difficulty changing these things because the "server" service is missing from the services list. I did google the problem and I found some commandline stuff that told me that the service is not installed, but it didnt tell me how to get it installed. I've tried reinstalling client for microsoft networks, and I've tried doing a windows repair installation over the top with no joy, any ideas?

    Thanks.

Have you tried disabling Simple Networking? Do this in Explorer, Tools->Options->Advanced and it should be right at the bottom.
