Yea Boinc is here. I have offically Moved all my PC's to the Boinc setup. You can get the seti@home Boinc interfance here . it's really easy. For all you people that allready have a seti account just click on the activate you account link at the above link. enter your info. and you will be e-mailed some huge bunch of randum #'s and letters. download the Boinc software and then click on the settings and attach to project butten. That is if the attach to project window does not pop up by it's self. the url for seti is: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu and your id is the huge jumble of #'s and letters. your options were configured when you activated your account. It offers native catching!!! i set mine to store 1-10 days of work.
http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah/transition.php Explains why they are changing to the new system. Though a lot of people don't like it and are changing to other projects.
I'm crunching SETI 2! I think it's good to be honest. Some people had racked up rediculous amounts of WUs. P.S. What the hell?!? It says I've completed 145 old WU's. I did well over 350!! Ah.. so they took the image of the datase on May 1st. That would explain my lack luster amount of WUs
The actual crunching part is the same as the command line version of the classic seti there were no changes. The changer are in the way that you get and send the wu's and most impostant the way you are credited. This time areoun in order to get credit 3 pc must coplete the same wu with the same result in order for anyone to get credit.
Seti 2 isn't as good as CLI seti. It's added about 30-40 mins to each unit's completion. My real problem is the change in scoring methods. Number of WUs was fine, and if they want to change that I'll be fine with it; but I want my old and new scores to be combined into one.
A lot of people don't like this new unit system because they see themselves having crunched so many units on SETI@home and then having to give them up and start from zero again (note: SETI BIONC is still not final, and there are chances that the database will be reset at a later date). One of the main reasons for this new scoring system is because BIONC will eventually incorporate other distributed computing projects like Astropulse, and since the majority of them use the credit system instead of SETI@home's work units system, it just makes sense to bring them all into line. One day, people will noy be saying "I do Folding, so I don't have the resources to do SETI as well" as most of the major distributed computing projects will move over to BIONC and you can download whatever project units you want to crunch.
