I have 645 units but I can't remeber my password and the mail account I registered with has been shut down by yahoo now :(

Dunno what to do about it either - might try opening up my yahoo a/c again if I can.

You should all be folding anyway, the Bit team really needs some new members - we're nowhere in the stats...

Yahoo deleted a lot of the accounts that havent been accessed in a while. if they deleted it, just reregister it. now dont forget the password.

It's just annoying when people come begging for others to crunch.

The sheer amount of people who keep telling me to put my CPUs to F@H or UD cancer because it's for a "better cause" makes me more determined not to crunch for those DC projects. :grr:

I definitely agree with unclean on this one. Seti's a voluntary project, and taxes help pay for research because the governments of various countries give grants so really seti, which could really use spare cpu cycles is the worthier cause.

I'm not begging, would just like to see Bit-Tech a bit higher up the score tables... I'm not saying it's a better cause, I didn't post to start an arguement. As you'll see from my post I've built up 645 units in seti...

As far a the 'better cause' thing goes it's a personal thing. I personally have known a number of people who have been effected by problems which the research of the folding and UD projects could ultimately benefit.

I don't care who you crunch for that's your choice.

Blue Infinity - What a crock, in case you haven't noticed there's a fair few things that 'taxes' have to fund and medical research is pretty low down on the list. The majority of it is funded by pharma companies who are driven by shareholder demands rather than the greater good of medical knowlegde.

I didn't post here to slag of seti, just to mention I had done a fair bit and to say that the Bit folding team is in need of any CPU cycles anyone can spare. I'm sorry if I've trodden on anyones toes.

I'm not saying that medical research is the only thing that taxes pay for, but still medical research can't simply be funded by private sources, the government does spend taxes on medical research. There are a lot of other uses for government cash but medical research is still important.

Indeed, but as with Seti they really do need all the help they can get.

At the end of the day they're both worth while causes, just from different perspectives.

    Shouldn't that be 24/7?

All distributed computing programs exist to be nice to scientists. Besides, it can't do any harm if you have half decent cooling.

jetsetjimbo, you have a fair point, and I'm not myself saying SETI is a good cause.

It's just some F@H crunchers persistantly nag, etc.

Anyway, we're all just doing it for fun? :)

Edit... well actually I might do a few wu's just to test out my server ;) as its not serving at the moment... I need a quick guide on how to run 2 instances or more if anyone can help ;)

for a dual processor rig? just make 2 shortcuts to the seti exe file. edit the properties and in the target box put -CPU 0 or -CPU 1 at the end. do that for both.

By the time my CPUs which are running 24/7 decides to pack it in and go to electronic heaven, it would have been long overdue for an upgrade anyway....! :duh:

I don't really have the money at the moment, Ive got a standard AMD heatsink with Arctic Silver, and an 80mm fan + adapter... only crashes in seti.

Im short on cash at the moment so its not something I can easily do, sadly.

Right, upped the cpu voltage, put the cas from 2 to 2.5 and pointed a 12" desk fan into the case, now stable under 100% load :p
Any suggestions on switching from GUI to CLI without loosing half a wu thats in the GUI? Apart from catching it just after sending the wu?

Your best bet is just unplugging the network cable so when it finishes it cant do ****. then plug it in and after it transfers just exit and run the CLI. make sure you turn off the screensaver so that it dosent come on after like 10 minutes of nothing.
