I've been a long-time fan of The Settlers (namely 1 and 2) and spent hours on them back in the day, but reviews of the later games seem to suggest they're very mediocre. My questions are: a) is this true, are they just a bit long in the tooth now?, and b) what games would you suggest to someone who loved them? I play a bit of Civ now and then but I'm open to new ideas. Anno 1404 always makes me look but I've never taken the plunge.
Anno 1404 + Venice expansion is good, although not exactly different to the newer Settlers games. I don't mind the new Settlers games though, good for a blast. Quite cheap now too!
the newer settlers is a lot more of the same yes but if you enjoyed the first 2 then you will definitely like the newer ones. i am also a big fan of anno 1404 it is quite a lot like the settlers so you should also very much enjoy it. definitely suggest buying it.
Same here, I bought it the other day on steam and got massively addicted to it. I think the land combat aspect of it isn't so great and the ship combat is a very simple case of click and attack and mob with more ships to do better, though there are some items you can socket onto ships that give you abilities you can use. I'm not a huge fan of the new settlers games, 2 was my favourite but I think they slowly went downhill after that then hit rock bottom since Ubi bought BlueByte (not played some of the newer ones though).
Best to buy on steam or get it from play/amazon etc same price of 25? How large is it to download the game on asdl so 3-5 meg at best. thanks
I'm eagerly awaiting more info/screenshots/videos of Salem The Anno games are great - my favourite being 1503
