The same happens here - MoD staff lose their laptops with amazing regularity.
I wonder how much of the data on them is encrypted?

AFAIK all MoD systems are fitted with FlagStone drives which offer hardware level encryption.

I'd be suprised (although not shocked) if the FBI doesn't have some form encryption on all it's portable devices.

Never mind the War on Terror™, we should have a War on Incompetence.

Unlike the made-up terrorist threat, the incompetence is real...trouble is, it runs all the way through government - where would you start? :eeek:

At the bottom and watch it collapse like a house of cards.

Wow. If this doesn't scream conspiracy...

You need to be organised to have a conspiracy.

Incompetence is inherent to any bureaucracy. Typically it is insanely difficult to fire workers who have clearly violated regulations and Hell will be a nice 75 and sunny before a merely ineffective worker is fired. Anyone with a good idea will be labeled an extremist and shuffled away to a closet someplace where they can't jeopardize the department with innovation. Altogether 320/tens of thousands of laptops and weapons the FBI owns isn't too bad.

I can relate to this. Federal government workers are the most dysfunctional batch of people I have ever met. That said, I would still rather have incompetent bureaucratrs than greedy capitolists running my country.

Are you really so sure about that? At least you know what the capitolists motives are.

Yeah, I'm sure. I would much rather competence be measured by people helped that dollars earned.

I thought the greedy capitalists did run the country? Through lobbying, and "party donations", anyway...
