I am looking to upgrade my cooling solution, mainly to quieten my pc. having never strayed away from stock cooling I have quite a few questions. I have the Silverstone FT02 (old one without air penetrator fans) but esentially the same as the one reviewed recently. http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/cases/2010/08/12/silverstone-ft02r-w-review/1 Gigabyte x58 udr3 corsair xms ram - no tall ram heatsinks i7 920. I am looking to get a new CPU cooler and a fan controller. So any recomendations for quiet cpu coolers? And I'm looking for a fan controller that has an auto mode that is user configurable and that can use the temp data from the mother board so i'm not totally reliant on stuck on temp probes. I have been looking at the T-balancer which might be a bit overkill but seems to have the features I want, anyone with any experiance of it? Lastly which thermal paste?, and how would you recommend cleaning the surface of the cpu when i take the stock cooler off? Thanks for your help
As you want to make your PC more quiet, you could always go for a Gelid Tranquillo. They are very reasonably priced and still effective coolers. They come loaded with TIM (thermal paste), so you don't have to worry about buying it separate.
What he said. This thread is well worth the read for fan controllers http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=192283 Also i would just keep the thermal paste that comes with it as it will be pretty good. Better paste might bring it down slightly but not by much.
I went for the Titan Fenrir for my recent build and it's very quiet. You might want to also consider the 'Thermaltake Frio', a double-fan cooler that was reviewed in this month's issue. http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/cooling/2010/07/14/thermaltake-frio-cpu-cooler-review/1
