Were currently redesigning our office at work and I've been given the task of putting together some new PC's, Only trouble is I'd like them to be "shuttle" small and have no experience in anything other than ATX so was hoping someone could steer me on the right path regarding components Heres some info about what our work PC's get up to 8 hours a day Main Applications: Sage 2010 Labtrac (a software management system for dental laboratories. which tracks all incoming and outgoing work, clients etc) microsoft office Info Storage = Small as everything is stored on the server OS = XP Ram = About 4 gig if possible GFX = on board Budget There's not really a budget, its more a fact of getting a machine that will handle the day to day office grind and pound without being silly. Id set about a £400 price tag on it so hopefully thats about right. Thanks to anyone who finds the time to help
smaller you go, generally it gets more expensive. Personally i would go for mATX, would allow for smaller machines that are easier to repair when motherboards and such go to silicone heaven Also the time frames of running would either mean very hot little cases, or very loud but cool little cases. Generally offices are nice when computers are virtually silent, as that hum of fans can really grid one down after a while.
as its work, go hp and get extended warranty there support isn't the greatest but once you've dealt with them and done the testing they require they'll get the part required and or an engineer sharpish but if your set on building them yourself i'd go p55 matx + core i3 only sff chassis i know of n like is the lian li pv351b but its like 90quid
Cheers dude Ill go have a peek at some matx setups, as for noise... well lets just say having a bench grinder in the next room and one of these in the office really does take over from the fans lol. Was just looking over all the big named brands like Dell and Hp etc but I cant help feeling that I'm getting ripped off compared to building them myself. If I swap out of the SFF and run with a matx and i3 hows a price tag of about £500 sound? Something like this but with a smaller case or maybe a full atx mobo, Just used OCUK as its the fastest site to find stuff
I don't want to tread on toes here, but what about Dell? I've recently had the pleasure of using some of their latest slim, mATX-boarded desktops and they're fantastic things, and dell support is pretty good too.
reggie50 - Will do if I go that route but now krikkits added that comment its up in the air again. Krikkit - I had considered Dell as 90% of our systems are Dell at the moment if we were going to go with them then the system would look something like this. Would you be able to throw me link to the ones you've been using? would be great to get some feedback from a trusted source before committing as we will more than likely be getting 3 or 4 of them.
