    Just a bunch of more misinformed kids who believe you must dress a certain way when you listen to a certain type of music.

    Thank you! This is perfect for my Media coursework.. i'm researching how Music and Media affects subcultures and youths in particular. It's very interesting listening to how misinformed and silly they are. For example.. goths and punks hate pikies cos aparently anyone who wears addidas is a pikie.. and of course.. You can't be a pikie because it's "not individual".. so instead they try and find something to be.. "special".. hence dressing in makeup, listening to "goth" bands and conforming to a TREND! You can't say your an individual when your doing exactly the same as the majority of insecure/emotional teenagers :).

    (Disclaimer. This only my personal opinion, i'd appreciate it if any goths or pikies notice this and don't try and flame me with "OMG YOUR SO WRONG! WE ARE SPECIAL".. as i won't have any pitty for you)

    We had an assload of punk/goths Yes I know punks and goths are different but the breed we had in my school were the same. It's Just a way to make friends easier, since you assume that they are more like you etc. I make friends just being myself and not having to put on make up or dress a certain way. However, for the most part the Goth's at my school weren't really "angsty" They were actually quite fun to hang out with.

    I can assure you those wanabe's don't represent goths in the slightest, they're living 3 years behind, dressing and listening to that type of music gets you laughed at so badly ;)

    OH GOD DO THEY NOT HAVE HOMES?!! I was down there the other day and ive noticed a trend that if the weather is cold then youll only get the "hardcore" out and about.
    But yea..there conforming to a Trend...its the same with chavs and other social groups (boy racers, skaters etc.) Its all a bit funny at times

    I am unimpressed. In fact, since I have been on this board, I have never heard anything good said about goths. I'd have thought you'd all be empathic, seeing as you're part of a geeky minority group aswell. If you told some of the "trendy" people you know that you're a "leet modder who hangs out on the bit-tech uk forums" I'm sure you'd get the same degredation goths are getting here.

    I'm not saying the bbc article represents all goths. infact, I would probably sneer at these people and call them 'Mansonites'. Please. Two of them both called "mercy"? And none of them listen to The Sisters? Hmmm. But still, enough with the gothbashing.

    I can only speak for myself but please dont think that i hate goths or somthing like that....but its mainly a disorientated youth that see it as somthing that it isnt. They believe that there being non-conformist but they are conforming. The trouble starts when they keep going on about about it. I personally dont go about telling ppl that im a "l33t M0043R" i only explain to ppl what those coloured tubes in my PC are when they ask.
    I totally accept that im conforming to the "gamer/modder/geek" group but its not who i am and i dont let it govern my life.
    Games = fun
    Modding = fun
    Living and getting on with love, life and university = great fun too

    Quite like Market Square most saturdays... (anyone at the meet should recall it..) Lots of groups of highly unoriginal 'goths' wearing way too much makeup looking like rejects from the crow...

    Whatever happened to subtly.. I mean.. Bit of eyeliner or nail varnish.. fine... but painting mascara tears on your cheek is just plain sad...

    Firstly, I am surprised the word "*******" still gets round the swearfilter. someone has locked my FUK thread in feedback, can someone unlock it and delete some of the spam, save me creating a new thread to grumble about this?

    Secondly, I think this is an unacceptable post. If we were talking about black people, Jews or Muslims, you would be flamed out of the forum.

    Also, if you gave anything any thought at all then you would realise that it is very very difficult to not-conform. Pretty much everything has been done before by someone. These people feel comfortable in black clothes. So they're kinda stuck on that point, so "all goths wear black" is like saying "all things that make noise are noisy".

    Now I don't like the eyeliner myself, and I don't see hardly anyone wearing painted-on mascara tears....
    ...But hang on...didn't you just say they should try and be original and not-conform? And now what do I hear? The chavish mocking of something they have done which could be classed as "original" by virtue of the fact not many people do it. So...they can't be unoriginal cos they're conforming, which is against "non-conformity" but when they DO do something non-conformist, they get mocked for it? Well, pick a side? :eyebrow:

    Perhaps you have answered your own question...they are insecure and emotional teenagers. Y'know, not everyone likes or can afford tracksuits and trainers, Burberry and the latest denim bootcut lowriding massmarketed fashion excrement. Some chose to reject it. And they choose Gothic to replace it, cos nobody REALLY cares what you wear. I mean yes, it is going to primarily be black, but apart from that you could get away with anything fom Oxfam salvage, marketstall stuff, casual black, band t-shirts, old trainers, hard wearing cheap military boots....etc etc.

    Atanum141, I bet you're racking 'em in, right? Lotsa girls? Too many to chose from? LYNX effect, is it? Must be nice to be you. Some people dont have so much luck, and they chose something else, where they feel comfortable.

    S'ok Arien. You have no pity for me, but I have a dictionary for you.
    I can see you're going to fail this coursework, if thats what you've picked up from your course and research. You are the misinformed one. You can have MY pitty[sic] instead. :miffed:

    ^^^^ I agree with you. seems everyone is seperating themselves from each other to try and fit in to a group. goths are the easiest to fit into

    What your refering to wasn't part of my coursework.. that was a personal view i tacked onto the end.

    I was really aiming my statement towards people who mindlessly follow friends or others into 'trends' because a) it's cool.. b) it makes them different to the majority.. or c) they'd be the odd one out. What also annoys me is the way alot of these 'individuals' think they *must* listen to a certain band/artist to be a (for example) Goth.. and *must* wear black.. People who choose out of their own accord to dress in black.. because they like it.. and don't brag about how the are a goth and hate other groups like pikies etc.. i don't mind that.
