I'm thrilled to know I'm not the only that plays this game on these forums...what do you guys got? Level 50(ish) Temple Knight Vitality: 25-30 Strength: 18 Dexterity: 15 Magic: 10 (to learn spells from Sage Freke or Yuria) Intelligence: 18 (enough for three spell slots) Endurance: 15-20 (enough to increase equip burden to whatever I need to run and roll at full speed) Faith: 30 Luck: 7 Current Weapon of Choice: Blessed Mirdan Hammer +5 two handed...what a beast. Current Armor: none...I use warding so I can forego armor and still run/roll at full speed at the lower levels. Current Spells of Choice: For PvE I usually go with warding. PvP I'm using Curse Weapon, Firestorm, or second chance. I PvP a lot....yeah I'm one of those D*bags that attacks everyone This is my most recent character. I purposely kept her at a lower level just so I can play with more people online. I also have a barbarian strength build (soul level 120ish with a two- handed crushing Great Axe +5 and warding primary spell) and a thief dexterity build (soul level 80ish with dual cresent uchigatanas +4, +3 and curse weapon). That last character was so frustrating because is it just me or is dark moonstone REALLY hard to come by? Some tips for newbies: -Be very strategic in leveling your characters. Pick a build (strength, faith, dex, etc.) and stick to that build. Don't put a whole bunch of points into stats you don't need...only the bare minimum necessary. For example, I keep my magic at 10 and intelligence at 15 for most characters because that's all I need to learn warding and to have enough spell slots for it. -In the early stages, upgrading your weapons should be your primary focus, NOT leveling up your character. Only level up to get the kills necessarey to use your weapon of choice. Farm the easy levels for souls. In terms of upgrades here's the basics for different types of builds: Crushing weapons: enhanced directly by strength Crescent weapons: " magic Blessed weapons: " faith Sharp weapons: " dexterity (I think...can't remember off the top of my head) Blueblood sword: " luck...look up how to get this. I'm too lazy. Just a heads up tho...BBS is viewed like the noob combo in Halo 2 by hardcore DS players -Don't waste your time upgrading weapons that aren't directly influenced by one of your stats. Go to the DS wiki page, weapons link, find something you want, figure out how to get it, what stats you need, and how to upgrade it properly. -The best level for farming (at early levels) is 4-2. Just youtube it and you'll see why At later levels I start at 4-3, backtrack and soul suck the red eye skeletons. If anyone wants to link up and play a few lvls or PVP I'm always game. I live in the states (central time zone).
I really need to get this game. Been meaning to but every time I have the moolah for it something comes up and I have to pass on it. This seems like something I would really enjoy
My character is only a level 4 at the moment so not a lot of point of posting all her stats. She is a Royalty class with a funny dagger thing which seems to act as a magic wand (she originally had a silver stick, but I picked up the dagger as loot), a Quality Rapier and a Buckler. Not played for a few days as the PS3 is currently grinding B-Spec Endurance races.
First Char, Knight, SL ~120: Some kind of messed up STR/DEX/FTH build. He's going +5 Blessed Great Axe w/ +5 Adjudicator's Shield for maximum regen. I also have a Purple Flame Shield and Quality Wing Spear for fights which favor that layout. Armor is a mix of Fluted and Dark Silver which lets me roll with a Ring of Great Strength. I usually carry a Lava Bow as a ranged backup weapon and a Talisman of God for Second Chance. Second Char, Thief, SL ~100: Dex build, +5 Sharp Uchigatana w/ +5 Adjudicator's Shield. White Bow and Talisman of God alternate for ranged and Second Chance. Fluted Chest, Brushwood Helm, Black Leather arms and legs so I can roll with no ring. Third Char, Royal, SL ~50: Magic build, still being worked into what I want it to be. Planning on Phosphrescent Pole and Kris Blade both +5 in the right hand, Talisman of Beasts and +5 Crescent Falchion in the left. The Pole and Crescent weapons together will be insane MP regen, the Kris Blade and Talisman will be powerful spell casting with the option for miracles. I've got Monk's Headwrappings, Gloom chest, Ragged boots and arms at the moment. Right now the second is my favorite. Running in a chopping at things is great fun, and she's at a great level range. Things are just reaching their most powerful while still not having enough levels to put points into everything. She's basically my first character done better. Big hits set off second chance, little hits get regenerated, everything else gets dodged by ninja rolling. I like to have Second Chance on all of my characters and getting to 16 Faith and 14 Intelligence (just enough MP and Miracle slots to cast it) is usually one of my first goals. Cast it once per level and you effectively double your health. Couldn't tell you how many times I've been struck by an unseen attack or foolish move and would have died without it. At higher levels it's cost effective to buy spice and constantly recast it compared to dying and losing souls. Also compare it to healing spells mana and time wise: three times the mana cost of heal, but gives you can entire extra health bar. Also only takes on cast time. Very useful miracle.
Are you more of a two-handed fighter or do you mix both? I'm assuming you're like most others and just wear the shields on your back to get the regen benefits but don't actually use it to fight. My thief is my favorite as well, although I went with dual uchis versus using a shield...and I use Doran's armor (best pvp male armor imo) Also, any idea when Project Dark is coming out? I keep seeing 2011 but nothing more specific. Cheers mate!
With the first character it's all two handed when using the axe. The one handed swing is just too slow to be useful. When he's using the Purple Flame Shield and spear I'll obviously keep the shield out, but that's only for certain situations like Armor Spider where I like being able to block. On the second character it's a mix. Being Sharp there's not much damage difference being one handed or two. 2H animation hits harder but swings slower, 1H swings faster and hits for less per. A full bar of stamina does about the same damage either way. For bosses I'll go 2H all the time since blocking with the shield always gets broken anyway so I may as well get a little more damage for those times when you can only get one swing off. For the rest of the level 1H is nice because you can get 90% physical damage reduction on the Adjudicator's Shield and the guard break reduction is enough to stop light blows from dogs and such which are hard to hit in 2H mode. As for Project Dark, no clue! It's been a couple years since Demon's Souls so I'd expect mid year 2011, they hopefully won't need all the way until Q4.
I haven't played in a while so I can't remember my stats. But my main character is a Royal that uses a Quality Rapier or a spear so I can attack and still keep the shield up. I also have a magician that pretty much sticks with Soul Ray.
Oranges and Apples really. Oblivion is more about the dialogue and the story whereas Demon's Souls is much more tactical. It's really hard to describe how different they are. You're best bet would be to rent Demon's Souls and see - although you would probably need to rent it for a couple of weeks as your second week of playing it will be a completely different experience to your first week! I nearly traded my copy in until someone on this forum gave me some bits of advice which allowed me to 'get' what was going on and therefore enjoy the game. You will see what I mean if you rent it!!
Thx I want this game so bad... Seems like everyone loves it. Have you seen the reviews for this game? All of the ones I read adored it.
Mainly because the combat is just so well done, the animations are smooth, and it just feels right. That and it truly is quite tactical, facing more than an enemy or two at a time is F**king hard.
Check out the Zero Punctuation review. Absolutely hilarious exaggeration of the game, convinved me to buy it.
A buddy I play(ed) WoW with loves this game. Would never shut up about it on Vent until I rented it. I've got the bug and rrrrrreeeaaaalllllllllllllyyyyy need to buy it now lol
Bought it recently (was on sale for £15 on zavvi). Forgot how fun it is, much more fun now that i realise you really do need to farm a bit. Currently got a Steel shield (+3) and winged spear (+5) and the soldiers starting plate. Can't dodge for crap. But I really don't need to SL:20 Vit:15 int:9 End:15 Str:18 Dex:15 Mag:8 Fth:10 Lck:10 Might also try a Shield + spiked shield combo just for fun on a new character.
My fellow DS friends...this would seem obvious but here's some stuff that I'm learning about the game. Need help farming for souls and/or stones for upgrades? Here's some tips: -Get pure black soul tendency. You do this by killing yourself IN HUMAN FORM in each world. Ressurect yourself via ephemeral eyestones or by invading. Killing bosses or npc black phantoms raises your soul tendency towards light. To get black soul tendency for a single world you need to die the equivalent of around 4-5 times...this will make enemies tougher and more phantoms appear, but you get way more souls and much better goodies...espcially if you're looking for chunks or pure stones to upgrade weapons. ***Remember*** that each time you turn the game off or quit your soul tendency resets to neutral (offline) or whatever the average is for each world (if in online mode)....although I know Altus will sometimes set up each world in pure black or white on holidays or special occassions. Using this strategy alone I fully upgraded a Dragon Mirdan Hammer +5, Sticky Compound Long Bow +5, Blessed Great Axe +5 in one playthrough (took awhile tho). Still a newbie and need to farm easy souls? Here's a tip: -Youtube demon's souls farming 4-2 and watch. Make sure you have a decent bow and lots of arrows, but this will solve your woes and help you level up and upgrade weapons. If anyone has question hit me up
I think my Char is around level 55, I can't remember the stats off hand but I've been focussing on getting good equipment and the stats required to use it (eg Lava bow). As for tips I'd say the best things a beginner can do are: 1 learn how to use the rolls & dodges to avoid getting hit 2 focus on getting a good shield and learning how to use it (look for one that blocks 100% physical damage) 3 Farm level 1-1 for an hour or two for grass (healing potions) 4 complete 4-1 as soon as possible so you can farm 4-2 (even on normal tendency you can get a lot of souls in a short period) 5 Use the thief's ring all the time unless there is a specific reason not to. 6 Learn how to pick off enemies one at a time - even easy enemies can kill you if you get surrounded 7 remember that using a healing potion takes so much time you *will* be hit again if you don't get some distance from your foe (or they are busy doing something else) 8 Get Soul Arrow and a good bow ASAP I'm sure there is much more but that should get you started
Just a hint for people: The boss of 4-1 (adjudicator) Is hilariously weak to magic. Find some sticky white stuff (there's some at the start of 2-1) and run down to him, hit the big cleaver wound, then his head. With my +6 winged spear, he only managed to get off 1 attack.
Alternatively, stand at the top and cast spells/shoot arrows at his head. This same strategy works for a variety of bosses. 5-1 stand back and hit it with fire, dodge the occassional leech ball. 1-2 stand on the upper area and fire as he draws his arm back and his shield is off to the side. 5-3 take the path on the right (as opposed to the left with Garl) and fire arrows at Astraea. Reload the map and Garl will be replaced with a Black Phantom, his gear laying on the ground. 4-3 fire arrows/cast spells as an alternative to using the sword. There are ranged strategies to every boss with greater or lesser effectiveness, those are just the cheesier ones.
