Briwax is a mix of bees wax & carnauba wax but also contains toluene which im guessing is what caused the "crackles".
that is true....but you would have to get the distance right....could lose alot of plexi before you get it right I only really want the paper to hold it together slightly, but i will test it out with various bits. I was even thinking to ducttape the paper itself, so that there is no crappy residue left over. I only really need small gaps to let some light through. Again, this is all just ideas in my head, but I like venting them here as I get constructive input
That's what I was trying to get across - duct-tape up the protective film, wrap it to a pizza box or plywood scrap to hold it roughly upright - then blaze away like the Governator. Even if you don't get the results you want, you're going to have added to the sum of knowledge in much the same way as the 'Can you cut an LCD' thread...
It's me living vicariously through people that don't live in the UK and thus can own firearms because they want to, rather than because their line of work involves foxes, wolves, bears, or vengeful political opponents. That said, you're a Texan, so if stereotypes are to be believed you can muster more firepower than most of NATO for fun. But ZiiP is Irish (Republic, I assume), a nation not noted for civilian arms ownership (except in the Northern Irish way). So I don't know whether he just left his name and mobile number, or whether he had to sign over his eternal soul and firstborn child for the license and will therefore be extremely cautious about blazing away on B-T's behalf...
Last weekend was firecrackers made with solid rocket fuel. We still haven't found all the pieces of the 1/2" piece of plywood we put one under. This weekend: Barrett .50 cal vs. outdated blackberrys My dad has fun friends with neat toys.
can i spend the weekend with you? the shotgun would be cool as well you could just heat it up like with a heat gun or butane torch and then use your garden hose and cool it off really quickly!
OK... I don't have access to a Barret. That requires a Federal license. Texas gets the gun-toting loony rep, but truthfully there are places far more bubba than here.
I wouldn't go as far as to call him "bubba" but when the largest city within 100 miles has under 2,000 people, having friends in high places is easier than you think, which makes permits easier to obtain. The same guy who has the Barrett also has a silenced .22 and .308 that are just awesome to play around with. Both of them required a permit and approval of the county board, but they all knew him by name already.
you could also cover one side with ductape, lay it on the floor (concrete, facing the ductape side down) put some towels on the top and smash the plexi with a hammer, should work, if not, fun
The shattered idea was what originally had me going, but then when it was suggested to me, I have decided to try and get actual bullet holes in it. So long as I can get it to hold onto whatever backing I use, it should be feasible. I'll try various distances as well, starting with 100m.
Well, I went off to my little happy place on the farm and let some steam off yesterday. Thankfully I remember to bring the test piece with me. It was just a spare piece of 6mm Acrylic I had lying around that my brother-in-law had given me to practice dremeling on, but this was much more fun! So, field, solid backdrop, secure range, Ruger 10/22 Allweather, 50rds, 100m. 41 of those rounds were for paper Zombie targets, the other 9 went into the acrylic. I should have left it at just 6 shots, they were all nicely spread out, but couldn't help myself and put 3 rounds too many down-range. In any case...I am very happy with how these look, so I reckon I will use this technique for either a new case (more than likely next year for SupCom2) or I will mod the window in my current case... The results: *plexi was A4 size, 21cm x 29.7cm Sorry for the crappy quality, my main camera is in the post from a mates gaff, so had to use my N95. I won't post more "in-depth" photos of the equipment used...this is the tinterweb after all Any and all feedback appreciated.
Cool! The top left hole in the first pic, and the far right one looks really good with their longer cracks! I wonder what it would have looked like if the acrylic had been fresh out of the refrigerator/freezer. If you could get the temperature right, perhaps the cracking would be more pronounced w/o shattering completely. *shrugs*
That was the point Hardly want to put all the rounds in the same hole. I put 2 rounds side by side and look at the massive hole they made
I thought you wanted it in a million pieces. -It would have kept me awake at night if I didn't pull the grouping joke.
The original idea was shattered plexi, but then it evolved into bullet holes. I'm an FPS fan, so it would be fitting that they were in it.
You'd be surprised what it can do. What I wouldn't give to have my old 7.62 again I have a friend in England who wants to make up an acrylic window for me (Case is a Gigabyte 3D Aurora btw) and wants to CNC some fake holes into it for me.... Going to take him up on the offer, but will also get some acrylic off my brother-in-law who owns a signage company, so should have acess to whatever I might use...
