So as some of you are aware I have been looking into having a shed built, but not just any shed and following Goatee and his build I decided to throw it up here for comments, suggestions or even critiquing The basic idea is to compliment the rest of the garden (and to replace the shed removed back in Feb, a small 6x8) Already have most of the garden complete (excuse the non-painted fence panels), the shed, decking and a lean-to-pergola would be all that is needed (both to follow) For the shed I am looking at a workshop more than storage, but obviously SWMBO will likely try and fill it with stuff we no longer need, so I need to finalise the layout (WIP - still even after 4 months) and get it built with benches, equipment and the like (currently looking at 2x 3M long workbenches CLS framed with kitchen worktops on top), no under bench storage This will likely be at one end of the shed, covering a U style layout (ish), other end will be a wooden framed storage shelf which I'll build (I looked at cheap storage shelves but none of them passed the 'last longer than a month' test, and all of them had really bad reviews, paying for a decent shelving unit would be £350+ so for around £100 of wood, it'll be hand built which allows more customisation I am lucky, I spoke to my local sparky, and he has agreed I can do most of the install myself (He'll just want to connect everything up (a lot of sparkies want to do the whole thing, which I do agree with, in some respect, but others just want 2 days work) All parts already to go, including a 20m SWA cable, and of course the obligatory 20m armoured fibre for geeky stuff, 2x JCC ToughLEDPro celing lights and 3x double outlets (only need power at one end for the benches) Security will be hinges with coach bolts, and 2x U-hooks for the latching (along with some serious locks), more to follow on this (not to mention the home automation security system I am building along with Internal and External CCTV for the shed (seperate to the house CCTV as well), courtesy of Ubiquiti, though I am paying ) The shed base went down Friday, partially laid on the old slab (I don't like concrete slabs and it would have proven too costly to remove, so we'll hide it ) Usualy posts in postcrete to level the floor (raised higher than I wanted, but with the slab in the way I am not too worried) The reason it looks wierd is because the garden not only slopes away from where I am standing, but also to the right (only garden around with this feature!) (weed membrane will be fitted tomorrow before the shed floor gets fitted) Shed will be a 12x10 reverse apex shed, shiplap on the outside, foil insulation on the walls, jablite within the base frame, and the ceiling will have a mixture of jablite and foil Roof will be covered with EPDM rubber for long like (friggin hate felt) More to follow........ shed build is tomorrow Frame layout in garden Close up of the frame Dog swears one of his bones is hidden around there somewhere
That's treated for ground contact, right? Around here a chunk of untreated wood will turn into mulch with earthworms in it within a year.
So build time was a little over 4 hours, they didn't cut any corners and stayed to make sure I was happy with everything before leaving I have a little work around the base to sort out, lattece on the right hand side, and front right extend the paving out Now the real work starts, I can now plan for the internals properly Pics: Base and shed finished Dog checkign the work to make sure he was happy Vapour barrier
