I think some people had that problem when using a certain beta BIOS. Have you flashed to a beta BIOS?

you need to re-install windows. (motherboard chipset changed)

the "un-know CPU" this happens with most xp-m's. As long as you can set the speed you will be fine if not you need to get a new bios.

dont worry aobut the unknown cpu type, i was worried for a while, but it works with it, so dont let it bother you, if you can set the clocks to teh speed you want(think default for a 2500 is 166x11).

definatly reinstall the os, cause the old drivers and crap wont work with chipset, should solve the problem.

I tried exactly the same thing when I upgraded from my old gigabyte board to a nice new NF7-S, its the drivers. Just reinstall windows and you'll be fine :hip:

I think Ben may have the answer.

What was your previous motherboard, did it have an nforce2 chipset, if not that is where your problem lies (I assume you are trying to BOOT into the same Windows install from your previous motherboard).

If you change chipsets your Windows install will be setup for the previos mobo's driver set.

You may be very lucky and get away with a repair install, if not the only remody is a complete fresh install of Windows.

ahhhh feck, yeh im trying to install on to a hdd with windows already on, and it wasnt the nForce 7 chipset.

I did try and get it to bott from the windows CD but it wouldnt even do that, i was thinking for the repair u see. If i blanked a spare 40gb hdd i have, then install windows on to that then u think that should work?

i only ask coz i dont wanna blank the 80gb one with all the stuff on thats in there atm becuase i need to back it up! hmmm

and its just the standard bios in there atm, how would i upgrade that?...and actually, i will need to use another machine to format my drive wont i?

just install on the second drive and copy what you need over and then you can format the big hdd within windows

you can format on that pc in dos though.

    My method:
    1. Remove any other hard drives, other than the one to format. From the system (so you do not delete the one with all you work on it).
    2. Make or get a windows 98 boot disk (floppy) use this to get to the A:\
    3. Type fdisk in so it looks like this A:\fdisk
    4. Say yes (y) to the first question. then option 3. then option 1 (this will let you delete the primary boot partion)
    5. You then need to make a new one, so go back to the first set of options (esc key). option 1 will be create an new primary boot partion. in this one you want the partion to be the full size of the drive so say yes and fill in all the question.

    6. Then get back to the A:\ so repet step 1 & 2.
    7. Type format C: this will format the c drive and the prompt should look like this A:\format C: wate for it to compleat and then re-boot with out the floppy.

i do not think you need the last 2 (6 & 7) for xp or 2000.

    or

you could format the drive on another pc :)

right, gonna have to do it on a partner PC becuase i dont have win 98 anywhere.

and even before i do that, shouldnt i be bale to get into the repair thingy if iboot of the xp CD? coz it wont!

tell u what, nothing is ever easy is it? lol oooh and i was wondering if u or anyone knew what would happen if i did the following:

The mobo comes with and IDE to SATA adapter to plus one IDE drive into a SATA point on the mobo, it says make the drive a master, now what i wanna know is if a masta sata will override the master IDE? or if u can slave both IDE's?

and another thing, the mobo has the standard big mobo strip plug socket and the small quad 12v socket, do i plug both leads in from the PSU?

You might need to change the boot order (in the bios) eg: 1:: floppy 2::cd-rom (dvd or what ever you have) 3:: hard drive.
    Pass don't know.
    Yes.

There have been 2 bannings/suspensions for (over) bumping recently.

I suggest everyone takes note and does NOT bump in my forum.

    Thank you.

Use the fast repair wizard on the cd if you have xp pro. If not format and reinstall.

Your thread has been floating around near the top of this forum since you posted it. You have no need to bump, any help you would have received you have had by now.
