    Very interesting.

    http://forums.totalwar.com/showthread.php/17993-Are-you-REALLY-using-Ultra

I have a GTX 570, and when texture is set to Ultra in direct x 11, my video memory is totally maxed and the game automatically disables AA.

I would say unless you have at least 1.5 GB of video memory (perhaps even 2GB) you can not run this game maxed (it just wont let you).

Try some different settings and use GPU-z to monitor video ram usage, its quite enlightening. This game is a beast to run.

I dropped textures and shadows to high and lost SSAO. Now the game runs beautifully with everything else maxed/enabled and with 2 x MSAA. BTW I am at 1680x 1050 so the effect will be more pronounced at full HD.

    Greetings!

I "found" that limitation when used the built-in benchmark to try 4xMSAA. It failed, saying I needed 51MB more of VRAM.
Its either MLA or 2xMSAA for me, at 1680*1050, Ultra, Large units, heat haze disabled.

    PS:
Even with those settings it downgrades...

No VRAM issues here, altho 8x MSAA decimates performance...

Would be nice to see some 2GB 6950/6970 users post on performance?

Yes, this is the sort of game that makes you glad you have a 580 I bet ;)

"Downgrading, Over budget by 62 MB
    Downgraded Anti-Aliasing to 3"

I run the game at MSAA now.

well it does run alot better post patch, it's just a shame they could not have had it already a part of the game, they should have delayed release so save everyone a 2 gig patch.

Also it would have been better for those benchmark options to be launchable in game (like in world in conflict and many other games. Annoying as it has to load the game to bench anyway and if you need to change any settings after, you have to reload the game aftrer the bench dumps you back to desktop, then change your settings, exit to desktop and re-run the bench! What a faf.

Also (and this might be normal) the game reports my gtx460 as having 946 mb of video ram but i thought it had 1024 mb!? This is annoying as the game then reports a 62 mb shortfall and auto lowers some of the settings to compensate.

I'd probably be less bothered by this kind of issue if i was paying £15 quid for a game but to pay a full 30 and to put up with issues that any competent Q&A should pick up is a bit like a kick in the gaming sack!

You are bothered because the game now supports DX11 and it didnt on release?
The game now has benchmarks tools and it didnt on release?
The game with maximum graphic details (details that it didnt have on release) uses more tham 1GB of RAM?

Dont use DX11, dont benchmark and\or buy a 2GB graphic card.
    Problem solved.;)

Clearly that's not what I said. while I am pleased it now looks and runs better (and as I said previously), I just think the 'release now patch later' mentality is lazy and it should have had atleast dx10 from day one. Also the bench mark, while nice to be added it's implementation has been sloppy.

A 2 gig patch, just what, 8 weeks after release? A delay could have allowed it all to be there from day 1.

The game was solid at release, no point on delaying it.
The patch is free and just improves the game. Dont see why you have to be so critic of it.
The size of the patch is really a non-issue, downloaded it in less than 20 minutes.

So... what would be a good solid card to play this game on 1920x1080?

All depends on what kind of settings you want to play the game on. If your happy to make sacrifices, a 560 or 6950 will be fine. If you want the best, be prepared to spend more.

And more than 1GB of VRAM would be nice to have.

Well.. considering i spent quite a bit on the game already (£70 on the limited edition including chess-set) I was thinking I might as well make the most out of it. I was guessing a 580 GTX @ 1.5GB would be enough.

If you can afford it, go for it :) Looks great on a 580. Just a heads up - Shogun 2 pushes my GPU harder than any other game, and sends temp and noise sky rocketing.
