Anyone know if or where you can get a dual IDE cable that is shorter than 18"? I have looked at most of the online retailers I know of and the shortest I can find is 18". I'd like one in the 10" range if anyone knows. Thanks.
One CAN shorten an IDE cable, takes a little work but hey, this is a modding forum, isnt it? Heat shrink it the same color and away you go.
Yeah I knew it was possible for one to do it themselves, but I was really hoping to not get into that. With all the small pc's out there, surely someone has made, or mass produced rather, a shorter one than 18". At least I am hoping.
it's probably easier to shorten an IDE cable than finding one in a shop. just search for a guideand practice on some old cables.
Shortening a rounded one would be near impossible. If you can put up with a 40-pin flat one, it's not too hard. 80-wire is notably harder but still doable. I've seen a 6" single-device. I don't think you're going to find a commercially-produced dual-device IDE under 18".
