I had my PC apart a little while ago to change some cables. All went well. When I was putting back in my soundcard and video card which I had removed to give me some more room, I noticed the system sort of go to start, the psu was off so it only flickered on for a split second before there was no juice. I assumed maybe I had just shorted something while poking around in the tight space. Well everything is working fine, but one thing is worrying me, you know the noise speakers make when you are poking around trying to plug the audio jack in, that bzzz sort of noise they make as you touch all the metal bits of the case before you finally get it in. Well my speakers are making that noise when I am plugging in my dvi cable. I am not sure if it has ever been like that before because 99% of the time I use headphones anyway so would never have noticed. Is this something to worry about?
It might be just where they are picking up a bit of interference. If you plug in the DVI/VGA with the PC plugged in there will always be a very small arc of electricity just as the plug goes in. What you also might have is some speaker are very sensitive to fans so try to route the cables away if you can.
Well the system seems to be working fine, I just don't want it to go nuts and destroy my whole system. I don't die if I start poking around the area, I will try licking next, see where that gets me I think it may be just as you say, there are a lot of cables all under my desk and everything is in pretty close proximity.
Lickings always good, especially when the lids off the PSU, death is almost guaranteed with a 1000 watts running up your tongue...Good luck and it's been nice knowing you.
