I know I have sort of covered this in a previous post but I am having kittens about it.

I want a screen to play games. I play mainly FPS like battlefield2. I also want it for editing photographs. Just my own photographs, but I want a screen (for once) that shows good skin tones etc.

I have narrowed it down to the Dell Ultrasharp 2209WA or 2311H. My preference is the 2209WA. I know it is slightly smaller but I like the ratio as it seems larger for photography and browsing and I am working on the -possibly incorrect- principle that my hardware will be more "future proof" (gag) with the 1680x1050 ratio rather than 1920x1080 ratio, i.e. future games will run at native resolution with higher FPS than a screen that is a higher resolution.

Also I have read that the 2209WA is just better than the 2311H?

I find the 16:9 ratio feels a bit like peering through a letter box, though I only have a 16:9 19" screen, so I am being subjective.

Also, I have read that the U2311H has uniformity issues that the 2209WA doesn't and that the 2209WA has a faster response time.

My question is. Am I right? But also, have I got too stuck in to the Dell Ultrasharps and am I missing other great monitors? My budget is £250.

Once again I thank you all for your patience with a born again noob system builder who is at one and the same time remembering what a neurotic freak I become when trying to spend my limited money in a market that changes so quickly.

As a final point. I have heard rumours that there is a forum member called Goodbytes. And that if you ask it, He will come........

I have both sitting in front of me right now, and there's no doubt 2209WA is the better monitor when it comes to uniformity and viewing angles (I'd also say it's the better monitor overall). For colour accuracy they both seem roughly the same, but then I haven't calibrated either of them properly. Even though there's a 1" difference in the diagonal viewing area they both feel roughly the same size because of the aspect ratio, and while the higher resolution of the U2311H is nice the difference isn't huge. Also note that the 2209WA uses roughly twice as much power as the U2311H even though they're both IPS monitors.

Overall though, I would recommend the 2209WA over the U2311H for what you're going to be using it for. The only area I feel the U2311H is better is for watching films and hooking up a console as it has more connectivity options (I connect my PS3 using a HDMI > DVI cable and my PC using a DP cable).

Is there a better monitor at that price point?

Thanks smc8788, that has helped me make my mind up. In the absence of any other suggestions I'm going to go for the 2209WA. :thumb:

I'd definitely go for the 2209WA. Actually, I'm kind of sorry I didn't pick one up cheaply myself when our company ordered a lot of them (30+) for work. Some might say that a resolution of 1680x1050 is limiting, but I don't really think so as I prefer the 16:10 aspect ratio. Just remember, that the 2209WA cannot scale 16:9 input by itself, if that would pose any kind of problem to you.
