OK im just wondering if I should download DirectX 9?
Will it make any difference to my games etc ?

    Im running a Geforce 4 ti4200 4xAGP
    AMD Athlon XP2000
    Asus A7V333
    256 PC2700
    WinXP Pro

I dont own any games designed for DX9, so will they run better or will there be no difference at all.

Just asking cos im on 56k.

DX 9 really won't make any difference unless you use a graphics card that can support it. The GF4 series and ATI 8500 series only support up to DX 8.1b. The latest graphics cards support it, but you won't notice a difference until you get one of those and the games come out to support it as well.

You'll need it if you want to run 3dMk2003 IIRC.

Saying that though, 3DMk will be the bigger download.
    (I'm doing it now on 56k - I got dx9 earlier) :)

Personally, I'm not bothering until either:

    a) A game I buy requires me to install it from the CD,

    b) I get broadband and I install it one afternoon out of sheer boredom,

    c) I buy a DX9 card.

    All are equally possible.
