3GHz on air is no great deal for something with FX stamped on it... dual core or not. I was hoping for more.

Still... the risk of going down the Opteron route now, is that later steppings are a risk.. you could get a great one, you could end up stuck at 2.6GHz or so. At least if I get the FX, I'll be pretty much guaranteed at least 2.9 or so... and I'm not multiplier locked... not that being unlocked is such a great deal to be honest. I just dont wanna gamble on a Opty unless I can find a 0530... and the chances of that are getting pretty damned slim. Historically, earlier steppings of chips seem the best clockers... generally, so I may jump on the FX60 bandwagon early and hope for the best. At worst a 2.9Ghz dual core rig... well Oh No... whatever shall I do with such a heap of crap.. :hehe: At best... a 3.2GHz dual core rig... Worth paying the extra for? I think so, yes.. I've done enough arsing about over the last 3 months.

For the price of the FX60, you could get 3 or 4 less opties and search for a gem.. Still deffo worth considering imo...

And if they're all dogs? You reckon I could sell them for the same price I bought them for? If not.. it's another loss. I'm losing enough on the FX as it is. I know you all think I have cash falling out of my ass, but I assure you I dont! I'll think about it. Finding ANY Opty 175 is a nightmare, let alone a decent one.

£320, plus £30 postage, plus VAT when it arrives, plus import duty... Hmmm. Not that cheap TBH. I'd rather source one in teh UK. Thanks for the link tho.. very kind of you. I think I should still wait until Jan 10th and see what Tim writes.. Come on Tim, we all know you got the goods already, and have an article written.. you dont fool us.

I wish... I've still got 8 more CPUs to benchmark.

Good idea.... if they're willing to do that, yes.

I still think I'll wait until Jan 10th and read some reviews. I am tempted to sell the FX, get a Opty, and put the change towards a new monitor, but I'm just so worried I'll end up witha chip that maxes out at 2.5 or something.

Maybe I was unlucky then, I had a friend in the US buy some memory for me and then send it as a gift, which he did.

I then get a "We have a parcel for you at the local royal mail depot" where they charged me import duty on behalf of HMC and another fee for handling payable to RM. I had to pay to get the parcel and if I wanted, I could appeal against the duty, which as I did not want to drag the guy in US into it I never did.

I saved about £9 in the end but it was a load of hassle.

If the value of the package is declared (ie its insured or summit) then afaik you can be charged tax/duty on it...
