It's more show me your rack than NAS/Server though.

    Need a new thread possibly?

Also more of a rack post but here is the current rack at home in the top of my linen closet.
I'm already considering just taking one full half of the cupboard and using it for all my AV gear as well.

    From top to bottom:
    24 port patch panel
    Linksys 24 port smart switch
3RU case containing Netgear ADSl modem, Router Station Pro and PSU’s
1RU blanking plate with 3x 20w per channel class D amps.

I love how Drayteks can be rack mounted.

The Cisco equivalent would be around the same. Totally worth it! Your setup is looking great Votick :thumb:

Well hopefully soon I will be starting a decent size home system build,

Going to be moving into my own place and setting up a network and server, As I need some testing environment for the Cicso Qualifications my work want me to get done, I know cisco have the Virtual environments and what not but, I want a full physical network that i can play with and toy with.

Will start shopping for components soon I think, Should hopefully have a budget of a couple of grand :D

Chat to Saspro, He has some kit he no longer needs, I picked up most of those switches and 2800 from him.

    I shall remember that.

I think first I need to work on the exact plans for what kit i need and what not, and to plan it all, so that I can then shop and get it all, Don't want to buy things on impulse and then change my mind haha.

Like i have seen great things about dreytek kit and was thinking about getting one for my wireless needs while the rest of the switches and kit would be most likely Cisco and what not, But i am not sure if I should just get all Cisco for ease of learning and practicing for the qualifications.

Also I was thinking about getting a Wireless router that can have more than wireless network broadcasting so that I can have one specifically for specific devices that I can control ports and MAC's on and then a general use one for phones and guests.

    Use Meraki for wireless.

Let me know if you need a Cisco lab, I've still got quite a lot of lab kit left & it's going cheap

    I shall look into meraki

And i dont think its a case of if, its more a case of when and what really.

What Kit do you have Sas, As I do get an Xmas bonus next month so could quite happily get a few bits of kit ready for when i do the build most likely mid feb

Agreed with Saspro, Meraki is a great solution for wireless. One MR18 covers my whole house, drive and back garden with a little bit for a few lucky neighbors to tag onto my open guest network. Just setup you VLANS and away you go. I'm pretty sure the MR ap's can do around 20 SSID's so plenty of networks to run.
Router wise I was looking at the MX80 but the Draytek will have to do now.

Wireless on Drayteks is a bit hit and miss I've never used mine. Most common issue is exclamation marks in wireless passwords, iOS devices are unable to connect in some cases.
Also seen a few stop serving wireless with only a reboot bringing it back up. (Seen around 15 devices do this when working for a reseller - We ditched them in the end for ZyXEL & Meraki)

Nice, My Meraki MX60 arrives soon so out with the Draytek, Should free up a 2U slot above the main home server for another box I acquired for free recently - Possibly VMware Test box.

So how much cisco paying you to name drop them as much as possible :p

Most my home lab is coming back into my office this week/next week as I'm leaving in 2 weeks, but I don't think I mind, I think I'm a bit over having all the servers everywhere I go in life haha.
