Running 4 at the moment - 2 for a good few months now, 2 quite recent. All been rock solid, fast for the spindle speed (~200MB/s down to 100something). Great for BR rips, would be interesting to see how they handle striping like ZFS (I use flexraid right now on Win 2012 R2 Essentials).
Almost got a couple the other day when setting up my new server went with 3x3tb as would rather be able to raid for redundancy, might get an 8tb for an external backup drive,
Well Pics will be coming soon, But got an upgrade the other day. Picked up a 1U HP DL360 G7 with 2x L5630 and 8GB of RAM (will upgrade that to 32GB soon). My Currend Dell 2950 Will I think become my New NAS making my N54L purely for backups. But will see as im curious about a few things.
Cutting down on my kit. DS1815+ has been purchased to replace the home server. New setup will take up much less space. Meraki MX60 ZyXEL GS1910 Synology DS1815+ (Quad Link Agri) Arrives thursday so data migration time -_-
Don't ask just do! MOAR pics please peeps. Cmon cmon cmon. (Where's the forum upgrade where people can easily do attachments?? /rhetorical question)
That's my new one to go with the 2950, am waiting for a replacement battery for the raid card before I start really getting going with it, currently the write speeds on the raid 5 array is garbage. Just running ESXi 6 until then Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Home lab. And its not too bad, i kept my eyes peeled for a one of the g7 series machines as they are compared to some not as loud, its currently sat on the table behind where my main pc is, and unless its getting really hot its not that bad, if I max load it and the fans hit full speed then it is very loud, but most of the time its perfectly reasonable. My future plans are to get it all racked in the new year and moved somewhere where noise doesn't matter at all either the shed or the loft, not sure which yet.
Oddly enough I popped into my loft the other day to get the Christmas tree and decorations. while my whole house was toasty and warm, that part due to insulation was nice and cool. I would love a basement unfortunately not in the homelab budget
A friend of mine has all of his server gear in the basement and the biggest problem that he runs into is damp. He has two dehumidifiers running with a very nifty automatic pumping system for when the reservoirs get full. He leaves the door to the basement open to allow the heat to vent into the rest of the house, means that he very rarely needs to put his heating on.
Unfortunately I don't have a photo, but I once bought a 220v server from surplus and didn't realize that it was 220v. A quick trip to the hardware store netted me a dryer power adapter that I added to the end of an IEC cable. That was my NAS for a while. I think it was a quad core opteron like a dell 6850 or so.
Can I get a hell yea for some naked action shots? Also pictured: a quick insight into my tastes in music... EDIT: I had a 2950 at home. It drove me nuts (NSFW, due to swears). I got rid of it.
Its why I dont use it at the moment, I will leave it untill i have a rack somewhere away from me, I am tempted to do the resistor mod to help out somewhat
