I've been trying alternative software demos with my new Hauppauge Nova-T card and like Showshifter, but I'm having problems trying to produce a DVD to play on the old budget player connected to the big TV She watches.

Showshifter produces several CD-sized .ssf files not recognised by DVD Santa. I've converted "SSF to MPEG2 PS no recompression" using Showshifter but end up with a single .mpg file. Santa still can't open it (though no problem playing in WMP). Used Intervideo's WinDVD Creator to crop the unwanted ends off and converted to a 'PAL DVD SP' file, ended up with another .mpg that again plays OK in WMP but Santa can't open, as before it complains of "Unsupported audio stream" and "Unable to open the video file..."

Starting from the .ssf files, how do I get DVD format? :wallbash:

Do yourself a favour and dump showshifter and grab gbpvr or mediaportal or dvbcore, in my experience all are better than showshifter. But if you insist to use showshifter if memory serves me correctly you should be able to record directly to mpeg2 according to the FAQ at showshifter this is true

If you still have problems try running the file through PVAStrumento, grab it from http://www.offeryn.de/dv.htm#pvas

Tried gb-pvr, setting up was a pain and I can't get some channels (like BBC1, 2) to show in the EPG (though it claims to download the info). UI is too minimalistic, needs some decent menuing for mouse/kb use or you're forced to RTFM. Will be good one day, but not yet IMO.

Showshifter may have faults, but it set everything up no problem, very easy to use and recording from the EPG works. :D

"DVB Digitial TV cards and Hardware Encoder MPEG2 TV cards can record directly to SSF or MPG." - I came across some info with Google saying you got the MPG bit after registering  , but I'll have another look and try your other recommendations. :)

edit: think I've cracked it, I got a free copy of WinDVD Suite with my mobo, SS will produce the right .mpg file, WinDVD Creator burnt it to a compatible DVD.

edit2: and next time I try GB-PVR I'll try this walk-through to set the channels and EPG up.

gbpvr allows you to pull over the air epg when using a dvb-t card so you do not need to download xmltv for epg setup. but at least your working now with showshifter.
