    I'm thinking of changing around my set-up soon & my plan was:

    1. get Self-Install ADSL;
    2. build a small firewall machine (can't have my full tower on all the time, it runs with the sides off mostly & I own a cat that wees in random places);
    3. upgrade my Mac OS (uhuh, Mac :blah: ) to OS X & link it to the 'baby' machine so I can use the ADSL & not the 56K modem in the Mac.

    Anyhoo, I think that's all fairly reasonable, but what I would like to know is; how noisy is the Shuttle SV25? Does anyone here own one? My main PC's pretty much silent running so it'd be dead annoying to have a noisy little monster on my desk all the time.

    Cheers in advance.

    ROFL @ your cat, watercooling soon huh?? :lol:

    Uhh the spacewalker can be probably totally silent if u use a VIA C3 + passive heatsink but im not sure about the space or airflow needed. Uhh for a smoothwall box all u need is like a 486 anyhow i think.

    I'm very interested in the Spacewalker for my granddaughter, her parents want a small unit and I've had to talk them out of looking at Macs. :eyebrow:

    Good review here (of the SV24) but that 60mm case fan seems to be a noise-maker, even if you go passive with the Via cpu HS.

    Hard to shut the beggars up - on my own box, the 60mm cpu fan is the noisiest item, even though it's a low-flow one running at 7.5V.

    Damage's comment: " At worst, the SV24 is no louder than any other PC, but it's not much quieter, either."

    you can get a P4 version now which is much obviously much more powerful then a cele or C3. I think its better designed too, cant remember - read the review so long ago. Go look @ viahardware.com

    Cheers for that review & the comments :)

    It was the 60mm fan at the back that I was thinking of, especially when the insides of the Shuttle Spacewalker are so small & full!

    Reckon you could get a Papst 80mm in there? That might quieten it down a bit. I think I may have to leave some stuff until I actually get the thing cos it's really hard trying to visualise it without one in front of me.

    mod a 120mm in the roof instead if there's space?
