Hi, I have a SN95G5 which I know many of you are familirar with. I polished the case to a mirror finish so it looks like chrome. Now the case is chrome-like and the faceplate is still black. I was going to get it vacuum metalized but the process costs about $250 and chrome plating isn't an option because you cant do that with plastic. Here's the faceplate: As you can see there is a removable cd drive cover as well as a floppy drive cover and a i/o port cover. They are all removable along with the buttons. The stripe between the cd drive and the floppy drive is already chrome like as well as the one around the buttons. The aluminum plate between the i/o ports and the buttons is not removable so ive decided to make that chrome like also. Now I have two questions: 1) is there any way to remove that aluminum plate, it is attached by some kind of glue. 2) is there any good way under $100 to make that black plastic a very shiny silver. I want it to look good, not like someone bought a $5 can of rustoleum chrom and sprayed it a couple of times. TY in advance, BTW i need it to be done before Xmas
Actually, you would be surprised...Have you checked out Orac³? Several of the boxes he used in the case were plastic, and were able to be chromed, it just took some (what appears to be) conductive gold paint. Check it out, maybe it can give you some ideas...
I have used a product called Flexi-Chrome by TapeWorks. They also have a number of other interesting effects you might like too.
Well i live in MA so i cant exactly ship to Australia. Also, i cant find flexichrome on that site. How does it work? I have called a lot of platers and none of them want to do plastic. Anyone have any idea on removing the metal plate?
Take a minute to look around on that site. The web design leaves a lot to be desired, but if you want a method to give those face plates a chrome look, you'll find it on that site. You could even use the Find (on this page)... function and search for the original term I gave you. A little tarnished, but that's the only silver platter I'm gonna hand you.
since somepeople like to help, but not that much, here you go http://www.tapeworks.com/Pages/logofr3.html
