I recently purchased a SN45G version 2.0 and installed the following hardware:

Corsair platinum twinX 512mb ddr cas2 (dual)
Athlon xp 3000+ bCore 33Mhz fsb OEM
    Maxtor Diamond +9 120gb 8mb cache OEM
    Floopy Drive
    DVD-Rw
Radeon 9500 pro firmwared to 9700 pro

I installed all h/ware and used artic silver on CPU, did not change any setting in bios as I have no intension on doing any OC on this system!

Booted this system up and it detected everything with no problems.
Downloaded the lastested Bios which I was going to changed revision FN45S00J.bin to FN45S00M.bin in the Winflash prog in XP, it said wrong file size etc...

All was still well that day but temp seemed quite high CPU I think was around 48oc and board 50oc or other way round without even playing a game etc...

the next day I installed a new DVD-rw and the system was powering up and the drives had power and the fan on the G/card was on but after changing around from old system to new found the motherboard was the problem? I have read probs with the v2.0 boards but I have not even played with the volts etc in bios and can't understand the prob and have read about not setting the Memory to SPD and Auto etc.. I recieving a new board in a few days what can I do to prevent this problem again with the new shuttle?

    Cheers,

    R Wicker

    read that through again....

what exactly is the problem? will your pc not boot after installing the DVD drive or is there more to it?

(dont worry about temps too much, high forties/low fifties seems about usual for many XPCs)

The power supply in the shuttle sn45g is only a 200W I think (only had one for three days) so maybe you're putting too much strain on it. You could try upgrading to the 250W version but I'm not sure if it would solve your problem and they are expensive so ask around first IMHO. :thumb:

Also I haven't had a problem with changing memory settings to auto - my sn45g runs fine with it at auto or 200. I know about the vdimm problem but I think that's the only one.

The PC motherboard had gone as I had found it was'nt the PSU don't know why it was fine before I installed the new DVD Drive but I think there must have been more to it than just changing the Drive? Ihad not changed any other settings but I have read through a lot of posts and can't understand why it died?

Is there anything I should change in the bios when I get my replacement shuttle or any high core voltage I should look out for? I read someone saying about theres being 1.85v standard setting etc... and also read about VDimm?

Any change in the vdimm kills SN45 mobos. RMA it. Its a common problem

    SN45 Help

    Guys,

I'm looking for some help. I took got a new SN45Ver2 and was putting it together over the weekend. I had everthing plugged in and working fine, installed XP and left it alone for the night. I came back to it the next day and when i plugged it in it powered up by itself for about 2 seconds without any boot screen then turned itself off. This keeps happening. If i press the power or reset switch nothing happens. I have to leave it a few minutes before it will power up again by unplugging it and replugging it again, without any boot screen .

Is some thing fried? I did not do any overclocking or anything like that. It was a standard BIOS with no tweaking.
