Small Form Factor Shuttle SP35P2 Pro Problems

Hi,

I've just bought a new system that I'm having issues with, and before I return the SP35P2 I want to make sure the right part is at fault.

When the issues started the system would turn on but not boot (blank screen), taking out one of the RAM sticks helped so I assumed at first that it was a bad RAM stick. I reset the CMOS and the system booted fine with both RAM sticks in.

I set windows installing and came back after about 2 hours, selected the locale and keyboard and clicked next, it looked like the setup was continuing and then the system shut off. And I could not turn it back on.

If I leave it off for a while and unplug he power, then plug the power back in the system spins up for a second or two and then shuts off. The system will then not switch back on. Power is still going to the motherboard as when I press the Speed Link button the light next to it lights up.

My assumption is the the Shuttle is the problem, but I wanted to see what others thought before I send the wrong part back. It could be another part or maybe I just have too much for the Shuttle to handle.

I'm also slightly concerned that the shuttle might have been a return, the protective sheet on the front looks like it has been off before and also it has only a quick install guide and no manual with it (or is that normal). Also when installing the CPU (I've never installed a core 2 before so this could be normal) the protector cover does not sit fully flat, I have to push down quite hard with the clip.

1x BFG Tech 8800 GTS OC 320Mb

Can anyone give me any advice?

I have the exact same problem and so are many other people out there! I bought mine brand new boxed off the net. Shuttles response is to replace your ram and graphics card and upgrade the bios to version 'R' (latest), which I have done 3 times to no avail! After weeks of emails back and forth to shuttle's customer support, they have finaly concluded that my machine is faulty and aksed for me to send it back to the supplier. Well that is very difficult for me as I bought it off eBay! I did not realise that the warrantee is only vaild if you buy it from an authorised retailer!!! So I have now a new expensive paperweight under my desk! Rest assured I will not be buying Shuttle ever again!
Good luck with a solution my friend, but I think you are wasting your time. It is a manufacturers fault, not something you have done! And if you did not buy it from a authorised retailer = may god save you!

 

i would test each ram module by only having one in at a time. re-set the bios and try and see if it boots up.

but i am affraid it sounds fooked, and it dose sound like a return. May i ask where you purchased it from?

 

My shuttle did the same... after it fell off my desk . It would put fans at full, pwr light and hd light on and just do nothing; no POST, no beeps and no video output. I can't remember what the problem was now, but it was a surprisingly simple fix and then it was working again, it had just knocked something out of place...

 

The problem is common and I found loads of people mentioning it. A lot of people have found that the latest BIOS is required to support newer processors, so the trick is to first build it with an older processor. Which is fine if you happen to have another socket 775 processor lying around.

I sent mine back to ebuyer for a refund and replaced it with a midi-tower system instead. Although my Antec P182 does look nice, I still wish shuttle would have been an option.

 

My shuttle was very odd for not working like that got it working with a penitum 4 but then stopped working again for no reason as i went to turn it on one day it didn;t turn on. I tried to send it back to shuttle and they would'nt have any of it. And so now i'm in the

club!!!

 

I'd say it's pretty much guaranteed to be a faulty motherboard. Which sucks because, like everything else Shuttle does, it's a proprietary design. You'd be much better off building a custom rig based around an mATX or mITX board.
