check out this thread: http://www.hookedforums.com/a/viewtopic.php?t=1542#16763 if you haven't already. looks like its a memory problem with vista but there is a fix for it. Assuming that its the same problem that you have.
how can you get transpport tycoon (original) to run in XP? I bought it when Win98 was around, but had to exit windoze completely and run it in DOS. Compatibility mode won't work. I've tried. also tried DOSBox (DOS emulator). http://dosbox.sourceforge.net It only lets it run for some random time, without sound. then exits
It exits because you have the VERY annoying demo version. It lets you play 1 game year and then immedeately exits the whole game.
I actually have the full game (original) it never did this in win95 or win98 only since I got XP. I never bothered with it since, till it got mentioned in this thread.
I dont know if the original works in xp. I know that the deluxe version does, which you can donwload for free, and then apply one of the two patches to it which make it a much better game. patch is here: http://www.ttdpatch.net program called TTDPatch Configurator to launch the game and configure it here: http://www.ttdpatch.net/tools.html As for the game itself, I assume its legal, but just in case it isn't legal to download it I wont post a link for it here.
Yeah its not. Abandonware is still illegal until either the copyright runs out after 70 years or the developer publicly announces that its abandoning the software. Uselful FAQ
Anyone up for some TTD multiplayer action?? I didn't know others were fans - I was going to try Railroads last night but it looked too flashy and not enough economics envolved.
http://www.openttd.org/ improved opensource version of ttd. needs the original game tho. D´oh didn´t see a post posting the link before it´s too late
Ya, I had the same problems on XP.. Great little game to sink an hour here and there into but always would crash right when things got big and huge.. Gah!
I've completed the original plenty of times. iirc it would get to 2050 and stay on 2050, but the game still evolves though. not sure if I can post this... but here goes: http://www.abandonia.com/en/games/240 Download Transport Tycoon Deluxe for Windows | abandonia - download abandoned DOS games its the fully patched to work in xp, and it's free... You can then add OpenTTD over it. works perfectly on my computer. I see that there's options for online play with it. I'm not sure if I can host it though my DSL connection though. My ISP (UK Online) stated that they block outgoing hosting of servers. they since changed the packages and website. There is now no mention of port blocking on the site. However I have not changed my access package, so there could be some blocking?
