I have my Siemens S45 for about a week or something and I was just thinking about the IR receiver/transmitter built in it ... and u have a data cable with yout phone ... isnt there anyway .. to write a small program ..that will work on the phone .. (u can update the software easily) , so that I can use the IR transmitter/receiver as a remote controll for my TV or VCR or Stereo or WHATEVER ? or is that unpossible ? or just too dangerous to mess the software of the phone up ? or is there a simple way ? ... post all you can ! any advice, knowledge, crap, stuff is welcome
I suppose as long as the propper devlopment kits are avialble for your phone, there's precious little stopping you from wiriting a little something to do the job - I'm sure there is a heap of data on the specifics of how to make your own ir transmitter to control things, eg the tv. I'd say the only short fall might be the range at which your phone could transmit - I'm sure most phones and PDA devices aren't really designed with distances greater than 1 metre in mind.
Thanks Thanks for your remark The thing about Distance is very true but my dad has a PDA uhm , the m105 or something (not a real expensive one .. just a basic one) and there is software out there to use it as a remote and it works , he tried it with our tv , but he dosnt use the program so much so he got rid of it ... but Maybe a Phone isnt equipt with a long distance IR ... and a PDA is ... I'll guess i'll just have to search the web for a month or so
I used that IR remote control software on my Palm V (Before it got nicked) and it would only work up to like 9 inches away from the TV. The transmitter simply isn't powerful enough. You can buy a jacked up transmitter for your palm, but then you might as well just buy a universal remote So, it's REALLY unlikely that your phone has enough juice to work that way, it's a cool thought though S.
Um, I have no issue with the distance, I use iRemote on my IPAQ and have no problem controlling, the TV/VCR/HIFI/DVD etc.. using it from the other side of the room.
Intresting Intresting, very intresting we built up a whole discussion about it I guess Its right that my phone dosnt have enough "juice" to use the IR for long distance but i'll try that with my lap top's IR port (I can use the data cable OR a IR port , so i'll try how far it will connect to my laptop , so that way I can test the juice my IR port on my phone has , lol) I'll post that right here as soon as I tested it but Lets just suppose that its powerfull enough How can I WRITE software that will work on my phone , and how do i get it ...on it ... cuz I dont have a clue how I can get in the part where the software of the phone is on it ... I was able to download a UPDATE for the software of my phone on the siemmens site ... so i'm sure its possible to change/update/copy the software thats on my phone , true the data cable .. just not with the "browser software" given with it ... and In what language (VB, INI, C+ , ... basic language's ?) is the software written ? and My dad has a palm (like i posted before .. I think its the palm m105 (same as the 103 but with more memory) , so not at all so expensive as the 500-series .. and his remote worked fine ... like we only tested on our tv and we were like ... 2.5meters away from it (10 feet or something) and that worked .. not al the function's but it worked .. we could change channel ... we never deeptn our way in it cuz my dad didnt see the use of it .. cuz the software was trial .. and it would only work for a week in the first place and it was kind a big .. he had other plans for his free memory space (games and stuff , lol) well thank you all for the posts I just wish we had a SIEMENS EXPERT in our forum somewhere ... we knows all about the phone , its possibility's , its software .. how to add software (in the menu or something ... and all other crap ...)
