After 2 weeks of waiting, finally the SilenX fans arrived on me doorstep (well the site office anyways) after a mate mentioned them to me i had to give them a try, so 2 weeks and 65 quid later here we are.
The company was really helpful, no VAT or import duty (as far as we are aware so far) was required... all in all a nice experience.
    Now, onto the fans...

from their list of silent fans, I chose the highest airflow they had, this still however is only 14dB.
    2* thermally controlled 80mm, 28cfm @ 14.4dB
    1* 92mm 36cfm @ 14dB
    and 2* 120mm @ 58cfm.

With each fan you get a 4/3pin convertor and some rubber mounting "screws" for want of a better word, along with the standard fan fixing kit.
The fans have a good weighty feel to them, with all the cables either moulded together or braided to ease routing and neatness, with the thermal sensors have a small shink wrap tubing over the end....

I was a tad sceptical (*sp) at these ratings initially, but after getting the fans powered up, they all seem about right, all of the fans, outside a case are inaudible unless your ear is right up to them.

Currently i can only install the 80mm's into my case, due to having no 120mm mounts and not being able to find 80-92mm convertors.
The 80's replaced two higher airfllow (and noise) 80mm's, which ran on about 7v. The noise difference is apparant, even with both the fans running at max speed ( they are thermally controlled and may not be running at 100% however)
The case temps have dropped considerably as well, sitting at 23 at the moment, and the room doesn't feel any colder than usual either. (time will tell though, as the weather changes)

So, overall, the fans get 10/10, they arrived within 5 days from the US, they are nice and quiet, and not overpriced either. Well recommended, though the only drawback is having to order them from the US...

they are from http://www.silenx.com.... email them (think me mate did) and they were all to happy to help... as i say , we've paid no VAT or import duty yet, and postage isnt too steep (think it was ~ 10-15 quid)

*might* be selling the 92 and 1 120mm on, unless i can find some converters of decide to build another rig soon.....

Are these the see-through jobbys? I seem to remember seeing (not that long ago) a review of them and a link to where you could get them in the UK, but I can't for the life of me remember where...

Same here, I prefer it to be manual, or at least controlled by the mobo.

Dont like thermally controlled ones usually but they were cheaper! If i hack off the diode and solder the wires together will they run at full speed?

Or you could just stick the thermistors next to/in something very hot...:D

    Hot water cooling!

    Like the "hot place" idea.

Erm there *appear* to be one wire going to power, (black wire) and another to a point next to is with no other wires attatched....

could you ellaborate a bit? is the thermistor inline with the power to the fan, or does it come on a seperate pair of wires from the fan itself?

should be fine, take note of which way round the thermistor is though just in case, I dont think they are directional, but it saves some soldering if it all goes pearshaped.

IF theres enough interest, my mate and me *may* go into business selling these fans, depends on whether people will be willing to buy them or not.....
