I've already replied to the article topic itself, but this news deserves to have a thread in the gamer forum as well.

What do you think of the idea of limited-audience survival horror games and franchises being ported to the Wii? Do you see horror fans as a group to be added to the Wii user base, instead of a preexisting fanbase served on platforms fans gravitate toward already? How many Silent Hill and Fatal Frame aficionados would tend to buy other games for the Wii? Where is the horror library that justifies the purchase -- on the original Gamecube? Is there a reason to trade your Gamecube for a Wii if all you'd tend to play on either are RE 0-4, Killer7 and Eternal Darkness?

I suppose if you live in Japan, this makes more sense, given the 360 is less popular there and the PS3 hasn't quite caught on to developers' satisfaction. I'm also curious why Konami didn't think about a remake for the PSP, given the fact it's practically the PSOne for which the original game was designed.

I hope Konami will at least make the original SH a PSN downloadable port for the PSP. The ported PSP release could coincide with the Wii remake's ship date.

I'm thinking it might be worth a shot, I'll wait for the reviews first.

Whilst we are on about horror games for the Wii, has anybody tried Resident Evil 4 on the Wii, is it any good?

not surprising -- the only surprise is that it's not a remake of silent hill 2.

the series has really lost it's way, so... what do konami do? retread the past!

More news ill and illin' (80s rap will never die!):

The SH1 Remake is going to be ported to the PS2 as well as the PSP:

    http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/06/silent-hill-shattered-memories-also-heads-to-ps2-psp/

It now has a title -- Silent Hill: Shattered Memories -- which suggests the over-specificity that has undermined the atmosphere in other SH titles by Climax.

This remake, too, was farmed to Climax, which bodes ill (minus illin') for the series and shows Konami's unwillingness to listen to fans. I've yet to talk to anyone who thinks Climax is a good studio for games as disquietingly ethereal as the SH series. I happened to enjoy SH: Origins despite the melee weapons and various flaws, but that's an entirely different kettle o' nurse with wounds

My one hope is that Konami will make the original SH available as a download on PSN -- or re-release it -- in tandem with the SH: SM remake.

The subtitle makes me wonder: How tasteless will the remake be? What if the SM abbreviation is deliberate? What if the whole story is set in a labyrinthine S&M club in a Clive Barker novel and every ghost wears Kiss face paint and sounds like either the Cookie Monster or an opiated Paul Lynde? "Those nurses have learned won-der-ful tricks with the nerve-ends, Ha-Ha-Ha-Harry. Should I skewer a Happy Burger onto your punishment stu-huh-huds?"
