im in dire need of a silent heatsink that i will hardly hear but will also cool but p4 im not a major ocer and i game but not alot (dew to me having a geforce 4mx) but i would to oc my system a bit. i was cooling at the zalman 7000alcu one is that the best bet? also im wandering are zantec stealth fans good 120mm cus i just pruchased one for my quiet build (i sleep right next to comp)
Zalman 7000, Thermaltake Silent Tower, or Coolermaster Hyper 6 with a couple of really quiet fans, SilenX or Acoustifan.
I got a 92mm Acoustifan the otherweek and it's scary how quiet it is but it doesn't shift a huge amount of air, gonna test it on my sp-97 tomorrow . I'm also interested in any silent socket-a coolers, it's just to cool a duron mobile 1000, atm i'm thinking of jus putting a slowish fan on a aerocool phantom heatsink but that'll have to wait till i fix the mobo
Thermaltake Silent Tower without doubt, even with an extra 120mm its near silent and with SpeedFan the only thing you'll hear is your PSU
got a acoustifan rigged up to my sp-97. before it was a tornado running around 7v doing ~2200 rpm with temps under load of 29C. Now the temps are ~45C under full load. Not too bad considering the fan is totally silent. btw the thermister is jus hanging in the case atm so the fan will most likely be at minimum speed
Ive been using a Zalman 7000 for almost a year, great cooler but doesnt cut it for my ocing unfortunatly.
thx for the info guys i hav a antect trupower 330v psu which i cant hear atm i can hear the harddrives and my hsf but i need that to change
P4 not so good, im only 210fsb and my cpu hit 60C load last week in the heat and its usually at 50C load. Bought a 2nd hand thermalright sk900 and i HOPE they have improved A LOT since the sk6 days. Problem is - i broke the fan on it last sept. and so im using a zalman fan bracket instead which isnt quite as good. Vcore 1.49-1.52v, 2.8C
That's probably what the problem is - the built-in fan is perfectly engineered for the heatsink and other fans don't perform as well - when the fan on mine died I ran it with a 125CFM 120mm fan on top of it on my desk and it only improved temps a tiny bit. I did get an RMA on it some 9 months after buying it in the first place though, and this new one is doing me proud
Spose i should add that the thermaltake silent tower keeps my p4 1-2deg above ambiant at idle and around 41-45 under load, bear in mind its a 2.66b running at 3.3
hehe i still got my sk6 somewhere, i can certainly tell u the sp-97 is waaaaaaaaay waaaaaay better than the old sk6 even with a screeaming 60mm delta
