I'm sure I've read a post about this before, but I can't for the life of me find it anywhere now that I need it! I've got the 300W 'silent' PSU from QuietPC. Since I installed it I haven't really had my PC running for that long (4 hours max I think). But not once has the PSU fan started running. I thought maybe it was temperature controlled, but I would've thought that even in a cold room the PSU innards would have got hot enough in 4 hours for it to start running? I'm getting a bit nervous about leaving it running for long periods of time now cos I don't fancy that burning out! Cheers.
you don't have any type of temp probe for the case temp or PSU temp do you?... Guess that is one quiet PSU with no fan running..
maybe when ever you look at the fan it turns off.. and when you look away it turns back on.. some kinda sensor
yeah, it works on the fridge-light principle... I would leave a webcam on it and monitor it remotely... you never know what that thing could be doing when you aren't looking at it... check for empty cans and cig butts around the back of your case... It maybe having parties when you're away... sorry I know this isn't helping at all can't help it
I'd leave your PC on for a loooong while and see if it starts up. What is your ambient temp? QuietPC PSUs don't put out a lot of heat as a general rule, could be it just doesn't need to start up!
Normally I would discourage joking responses to someone asking for help, but I couldn't help lol at that reply. Hex - Sorry I can't help you.
to help a bit.. if you dont want to send back your PSU.. you could just wire another fan into it.. any 80mm one.. run the wires to the outside and plug it into a 4 pin connector or whatever.
I had a thread about this before, but can't find it now (need search - please guys). I had a psu which i modded and took the fan out...but it got to hot for my liking. I put a panaflo in at 7v, silent and keeps it cool. But i dunno what a quietpsu should do, but no fan in a normal psu is not to good in my experience, it needs *some* airflow. Charlie
