    Win98 [Not SE]
SpeedTouch 330 USB DSL [latest software]
    IE 5.0

I'm having some problems installing my USB modem on my Dell PC, can anyone offer any advice please! The situation is as follows:

Installs and works OK on my XP LapTop

Installs on Win98 OK [also installed it in safe mode just in case], but when I plug-in the USB modem the system starts "building drivers" and may either complete or hangs at 90% complete. Assuming that the system does not hang, when I click the SpeedTouch icon I get a message which indicates that the installation failed to add the new connection under the IE Connections Tab - there is no connection. On the task bar at the bottom of the screen the icon for the modem indicates that it is not plugged-in - but it is!.

When installing the SpeedTouch software the banner says designed for ME, 2000, XP - no Win98 etc. Has anyone had this modem [330 Silver] working with Win98.

I'm running IE5.0, could this be an issue?

    Many thanks!

Unfortunately, as you just stated, it doesn't support 98 and with good reason. 98 is really not supported anymore. I do suggest highly upgrading to at least 2000. It will run similar to 98 in speed but support hardware, etc. more widely.

But, in any event. USB support really wasn't introduced until Version C I think which was SE. You can download USB support for 98 through Microsoft's site.

    Did you try googling it?

    Try this for drivers.. http://www.speedtouchdsl.com/support.htm

Some sites say that there is support for 98 but who know's for real. I think it might only be for SE though.
