I've just picked up myself a nearly new wheel and pedals (Logitech DFGT) for a price I couldn't really refuse.

I've had a go on Grid 2 and whilst it's fun, arcade racers don't really lend themselves to wheel setups too well so I'd like to try something more realistic.

    I've looked at the following:

iRacing - too real with accumulated penalty points getting your licence revoked
BeamNG Drive - just driving around with soft body physics, no race modes thus far
rFactor 2 - Drives amazingly well but mods/updates are a little clunky
RaceRoom - Played the demo and it's not bad at all but will be expensive with all the micro transactions

When they're released, I'd be interested in Assetto Corsa and Project C.A.R.S.

Are there any other great racing/driving sims I should be looking at?

    Any advice welcomed.

    Regards,

    Sentinel.

GTR Evolution and SHIFT 2 are pretty good with a wheel.

GTR has the bonus of being able to add user created tracks and cars.
    SHIFT 2 has better graphics.

Project CARS is pretty much all I go on for driving now though, once it's done it's going to be epic.

I completely dismissed Shift 2 as an 'arcadey' racer but having just watched a few youtube vids played on wheel setups, it looks rather good.

    Cheers Cerb :)

GTR is a great game. Loved it when I played racing sims.

Although it probably drives really well and has a huge fanbase, having looked at a few videos, it's looking a little dated for me I think.

shift 2 has a nice modding community behind it as well, only downside is the front end interface is ****ing awful.

Although not really a sim, I loved Dirt 3 with my G27

If you can cope with rally as well as circuit, then grab the original Dirt and Richard Burns Rally (with RSRBR mod for extra realism as well if you like).

Project CARS will be great, although you can't buy it yet, Shift 2 as mentioned is very good (a little arcadey, but still very tolerable).

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I picked up Shift 2 on your recommendations and it looks good. The default wheel FFB settings are a little 'off' but I've tweaked it a little and it feels a bit better. Not quite there yet though... Any wheel racers care to share their settings for me to try out please?

ive no idea what its like for the momo but for my g25 i leave the game at stock and set the wheel in control panel as such

also go to nogripracing and grab the unofficial community patch for it, makes the world a whole much better.

Thanks for that. I'll look at that right now since I can't get into FFXIV:ARR at the moment because a**holes all over the world have left themselves logged in to avoid queuing and the worlds are currently full... Grrrr...

Good choice in wheel (I have the same one)

F1 2012 is a really good sim, but can be abit buggy. Also it is really challenging, even driving "slowly" takes some concentration, add buttons for fuel maps, brake balance, kers and DRS... ive rage quitted this game more than once, but I go back to it as it is such a challenge.

if you want to dip into consoles, gran tourismo 5 for ps3 is fairly solid, and they still have weekly tournaments. lots of cars to drive ranging from a 60's fiat 500 right upto any modern supercar and a huge selection of series to race in.
