Ea getting some flack for issues amazon.com removed the product for download after 10000 complaints where received. EA not relise the server requirements it seems. We may even have another diablo3 on our hands. People also complaining about the $30 of dlc available on release by EA.
£18 for it, not bad thanks Barney for clever thinking and EA for being idiots for letting me get it so cheap. Rep+
Suragh good man no point giving EA an extra £25 for a game you cant play. Gilljoy because I was on livechat to EA because I was trying to get on the game when it was launched in India 4 hours before the UK and the person I spoke to didn't say anything becayse I had turned off the proxy to get UK support and all was fine. Anyway I just got on and found 20+ games all on 16 player maps all made within 15 mins by the same person, I don't know if its a server error or some people are just trying to flood the servers with game requests.
Well, I just spent about 2-3 hours playing. No problems getting on to a server, and although I did notice a disconnection notice a few times, the servers syncronised back up within a minute or two. Quite enjoying it really, though region play is clearly absolutely essential to deal with things like sewage and power.
I added a few of you under the name grexthor - I thought my Origin ID was suragh and it wasn't. Pre-install Cheesecake.
Got the game after my early finish at work, got part way through the tutorial after about an hour of installing and patching, then got disconnected, still waiting to reconnect. EDIT: Managed to reconnect, can't actually play though, if I try to find a game or create a game, it says the server is down, then it reconnects, then I try again, rinse and repeat
I played for a few hours today. You definitely need other cities around to buy and sell stuff with as you don't really have enough room to build everything yourself once you get to a population of 40,000 or so. I am quite disappointed with the tiny amount of space you get to build in actually - it seems almost impossible to build a 'nice' city. As you only get a small space, you pretty much have to use a grid to make the best of the space. Hopefully they will patch 'bigger' spaces in at a later date?
That's possibly in an expansion. As all of the residents are simulated, having a large city can be taxing to lower spec computers (which is EA's target market, given this kind of falls under the same category as the sims for them) Also, the whole game was designed with not having enough space in mind as part of the challenge. I quite like it (if I can get it working!) Not at all, you can still make multiple cities yourself in the same region
Meh, I've decided that between the tiny cities and not giving EA any of my money I'll wait until said expansion is released.
TO be honest getting one city going with all the issues was enough! Not sure I can be bothered doing more myself at the moment.
I do like the game, but it really does feel like SimTown rather than SimCity. I played a few hours earlier this morning (haven't been able to get back online since though) and I had already maxed out the space in my town and zoned every last inch of it. And that's only within 3 hours, so I'm struggling to see where the longevity and replayability is in the game. My population was only at around 50,000 or so and was mostly residential, with a bit of commercial in there too. Even it was solely residential and at maximum density throughout, I can't see these 'cities' growing to a population of much more than 200,000....compare this with Sim City 4 where the population of large cities could reach well into several million. The whole reason I want to play these games is to build a massive city with the space to let me put my own personal mark on it, not to feel like I have to cram as much as I can into the tiniest, most efficient grid I can and then move on to the next city. The game also feels a lot less complex than Sim City 4, so is more accessible I suppose. I feel this is both good and bad as it does simplify some of the more tedious aspects of SC4 but it does feel like it lacks the depth of that game (may also be a consequence of the size issue). That said, I love the building upgrade/addon feature which lets you scale up your utilities etc. with the size of your city much more easily, and the specialisations which help to give your city a sense of identity/personality.
@smc8788 - I agree, it feels more like a 'Town Builder' addon for the Sims rather than the 'next Sim City'. I hope they expand on it and make it more of a proper successor to the series. I did enjoy the few hours today, but as you said, once you get to 40/50,000 people there is nowhere else to take it.
Got to play for a few hours finally and really enjoyed it. Got my city producing processors and with a population of over 100,000. Starting to have a few problems with water etc but guess that's what you get trying to fit it all in one region!
