Cooling Simple barb question.

    I need some 1/2" barbs and i think i know what i need. i'm looking here http://www.ihp.co.uk/page17.htm seems to be the cheapeast place i've found. These are BSPT barbs, i think i need these 1/2" (ID OF BARB) X 1/4 HOSE TO FIXED MALE THREAD. what does the 1/4" bit mean? does it refer to some other aspect of the thread? surely its not the ID of the threaded end?

    1/4" BSPT Thread. or 1/4" hose and 1/2" Thread?

    1/4" BSPT thread.

    i assume the naming is relative.i.e

    1/2 X 1/4
    HOSE TO FIXED MALE THREAD
