You could do this with UV Fans? And stick some UV LED's in them, that would look kinda sweet.

I'm doing a black and red theme on my current case (mainly cos I got a surplus of 5mm red LEDs at the moment), but I'll DEFINATELY keep that UV idea in mind for the next one

 

If your leds are getting burnt out, then parhaps they are a lower voltage breed than the blue ones I used.

If you dont want to use resisters to lower the voltage to safe levels, you will have to put more of them round the fan.

12 / <number of leds> must be equal or lower to the leds rated forward voltage.

 

oh, it works AMAZINGLY with UV fans. I did this to one of my 80s. As to bulbs burning out, it's due to too much voltage. In fact, since i ran the three on my UV fan at 4v (max!) for a while, two burnt out. Now, if you have 4 running in series off of the 12v line, you get an even, resistorless 3v each.

 

Just had a thought, and remembered that I've got a crystal 120mm fan and a UV reactive 80-120mm adaptor waiting to be put over my CPU once I get my new case....

....so maybe I can put some UV LEDs into the adaptor, and get a backlighting effect on the 120mm fan??

i have a Topower Phantom that has a clear fan in the front and in the rear
but the fan in the rear is a slim 80mm, so i cudnt replace it with an LED fan, but now i can just add LED's of my own

This is a great little tutorial. I have some Noiseblocker fans that are beggin' for some LED lovin'. Sould look great with the blue blades.

Dont use bulbs for this mod, only leds.
If you meant a led, did u use an transistor, or did you connect it directly to 5 or 12 volt?
