"Unconfirmed reports circulating around the net claim the upcoming life-sim, The Sims 3, has leaked online weeks before its retail release. The Electronic Arts developed title is scheduled to land on store shelves on June 2. According to SoftSailor, torrents for The Sims 3 clock in around 5GB, but have yet to be confirmed as the full, final version of the game." http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/18/rumor-pirates-get-their-scurvy-hands-on-the-sims-3/ Oopsie. Looks like someone slipped up somewhere. Im guessing this'll damage EA's sales for Sims 3 severely. Naughty pirates!
Wasnt Sims 2 the best-selling game of all time ?! Id imagine lots of people are going to buy it, especially as knowing EA it will have more DRM than everything ever.
It's only going to be like an extended demo considering all of the tie-ins with the game to the web, good strategy really.
It wouldn't surprise me, tbh. It's most likely code that was given to some amateur games journo working for a bedroom site - the preview code is, from what I've seen, pretty much the full game.
The Sims has always been, and likely always will be, a massive seller. I doubt this will affect it much in the long run - The game lives on 'expansion' packs, after all. I'm slightly suspicious, though. At 5.6gb it seems a touch small.
Absolutely not I was just making the point that, well. It's going to sell like crazy, and likely be in the sales chart from now until Sims 4 is released. Much like Sims 2.
The leaking of this game is unlikely to affect the sales. It will still be a number one game and EA will be left to say something along the lines of "Yes it was a hit , but imagine what it could have done, if it wasn't for those pesky pirates" roooby roooby dooooooo!
Well if you look at the graphics they're not really improved much from the Sims 2 at all, so they're not going to have massive textures like they do in say Empire Total War. IIRC, Sims 2 came on 4 CDs so about 2.8Gb, so this is quite big.
Anyway it is not as if the target market i.e. casual players (esp. young/teenage girls) usually know how to download a pirate copy. They will go and buy the retail copy.
