WOAH!!! just saw this film on dvd and OMFG it is so true to the comic or "graphic novel". Its amazing they colour the correct elements. Marv is just done perfectly to the book its amazing. Bruce willis also does amazing in this, best film since fifth element for sure for his acting skills. they also get the women perfect. the parole officer looks like the book and her girlfriend now i just have to put my figures i got with it on ebay dont ask what i had to do to get all this. but yeah... go see this film you WILL not regret it.
Amazing movie, was great. Very "hard" to watch at times with some of the content but was damn good movie. Really must get the DVD and watch it again.
This movie pwned. I added it to my netflix que that night when i got back from the theater. To bad Spoiler you dint get to see Jessica Alba nude
i agree Froggy i was sad that you couldnt good film overall ive only watched it once but it was damn confusing with the stories intermixing with each other like Pulp fiction... have to watch it again some time soon...
I'm not usually one for violent films, but the violence was quite stylised and exaggerated in a comic-book kind of way (unsurprisingly), which made it a bit less gut-wrenching. I found I became desensitised to it after a while anyway (ooh look, some guy getting his face smashed in... again...). It failed to really shock me, although I couldn't watch Spoiler the electrocution . Dozens of semi-naked females... booooring, frequently uneccessary, clearly only there to provide cheap thrills, which does not an excellent film make. It was generally a bit misogynist, but I suppose that's in keeping with the original. Fortunately the plots were sufficiently interesting to keep me amused, although I felt it was about 20 mins too long ( Spoiler middle plot with the prostitutes killing the cop was too long IMO ). And it had some really funny moments ( Spoiler "boner-inducing as this car may be..." ). And it was visually stunning, really cleverly done. Basically there's enough substance behind all the nudity and violence to make it an enjoyable film for me, so I reckon most people would probably get something out of it.
Substance? Nudity and violence is what sells to about 90% of the people who don't read comics and want to go see a film... Looks good will put it on my rota, seems every man and his dog are releasing a film at the cinema atm. - M@
Not the film I had hoped it would be. The long sequence with Marv was the highlight, with some other good bits scattered about. But the Yellow ******* bits were a little directionless and it didn't start to come together until right near the end of that story arc imho. By far the worst part was the Clive Owen led Big Fat Kill section. Jackie Boy was a quality character but the rest of the actors just really let it down badly - the hookers, bar Rosario Dawson, were awful and I thought they made a bit of a mess of the mercenaries and their employers in terms of their part in the tale. Having said all that, it is worth it for Marv's antics alone, and Frodo Baggins as the... troubled boy, was inspired. Marv basically stole the show from the rest of the characters and actors. Although Jessica Alba was... um... 3.5 out of 5 from me.
I thought it was a bit like Kill Bill; up its own arse. I didn't mind the film and haven't read the graphic novel so had no idea what to expect but I think it was a bit to stylised for its own good. I do agree with most people here in that Merv was the best story line, I don't think there were any weakness in the film as a whole but maybe it was too hyped up.
Froggy: Spoiler The girl at the end was getting her arm fixed from it being shot (and she told her mum it was broken cos her mum didnt know she was a hooker) and the guy in the lift was the geezer from the beginning bit where he shot the woman in red. Ive not long got bck from seeing it, and despite what everyone says i thought it was excellent, even though ive never read the comics or wahtever.
Ah thanks fatboy. Spoiler It doesnt make sense that she was in like a modern hospital talking to her mom or whoever on a cellphone. was the rest of the movie based in the 50's or something?
nah its just stylised in the past not actually in the past, check out the guns, pretty modern ones usually.
