I seen this announced earlier in the week but no mention of which ISP they were to take over.
This seems like great news for Sky, as they will now be able to offer Pay TV, Internet and phone service.
Sky are also said to be spending a large sum of the £1B, they will raise in a stock issue, installing their own equipment in telephone exchanges, which would also pit them against BT.

TBH I always wondered why they didn't embark on this adventure ages ago, it seemed like the logical path especially as NTL/Telewest are providing just such a service.

Here's hoping that Sky staff get free internet to go along with our free satellite TV. :D

    No fair :worried:

Here's hoping that the Telewest/NTL merger can offer at least some competition to stop them charging what they want.

Well they (Telewest/NTL) have struggled to compete as it is, even with offering broadband and phone services.

You are probably right, if things go the way Sky would like, then they would be in a monopolistic situation and could in theory charge as they like. But people will only pay so much even without choice, they will simply walk away - Sky can't afford to do that with its share price as low as it is.

Put it this wa for a company of Sky's stature, the share price is almost at its all time low, it can only go up.
    Might be something worth considering.

Hmm, can you buy shares online? Wouldn't mind buying some! My grandfather makes a living out of buying and selling shares!

And I think its great news anyway, I've always hated easynet and their crappy service, so hopefully that'll go away now.

The market doesnt like the reaction to this news, down 2.5% today and finsihing low, so expect the price to drop on open tomorow also. Price should rise back up tomorow though and will rise until the share issue. But with the share issue investors arnt keen on having there % in the company slashed.
