The satellite giant BSkyB yesterday took its rivals by surprise by announcing the launch later this year of its own subscription-free digital TV package that will offer viewers 200 television and radio channels for the one-off payment of £150. Packed full of all those channels you really want. Endless daytime TV repeats, lifestyle programs and epsiodes of Charmed. I'll pay my £30-odd quid a month and at least get some decent programming courtesy of Sky One, Sci Fi, E4 et al.
I'm pretty happy with freeview, cost me £30 for the box. Most of it's crap, but the BBC channels make for some damn good viewing at times, BBC 3, 4 and N24 are pretty much the only extra channels I watch. I'm stickk curious about this new service though, has anyone found a list of channels, i can't find one on the Sky site, or even a metion on it on the SkyNews site.
Yeah - it kinda depends on what channels it'll include. I really want SkyOne for 24 and E4, I'd pay if I could just get those two channels through freeview.
This appeared in my inbox the other day at work, still dont know which channels though, but it did mention that a number would be digital radio. If we get any updates I'll let you know.
If you got all the crappy channels that sky have (all the "entertainment" channels like Reality TV etc) bundled with SkyOne and a couple of SkyMovie channels, plus all the BBC channels etc, i'd buy it; without doubt a good idea, although the new thing where you only have it for 24 months then have to buy a new Sky card or watch the un-encrypted channels only (BBC and a relative few others; not including ITV, CH4 or CH5 either... ) I don't like too much. Good plan tbh. It all lies on the execution of course, if it's done properly it'll be fantastic, done badly and it's the end of Martin Murdock (or whatever his name is, Rupert's son) who's currently in the driving seat.
The idea is to get a dish on as many homes as possible, once the dish and box is there the customer will most probably upgrade to a pay service at some point. PS Its James Murdoc in charge right now
