i fix make housecalls to fix peoples computers, i'll build someone a custom one, stuff like that.

i try to keep my prices half what geeksquad would charge, which is really good considering those guys are effin' morons. true story: my laptops BIOS battery was going bad, i thought the BIOS chip was the culprit. i brought it to Best Buy to have them take a look, and when i booted the laptop the guy thought GRUB was a virus or something. he had never heard of linux. i should have taken that as my cue to leave.

Well, I've been reading about the Hawkins broadband booster and other VoIP-enhancing devices (those gizmos that prioritize voice packets over data packets over a broadband Internet connection to reduce latency and improve VoIP quality). My VoIP connection sounds fine to me, but broken to most of my callers to the point of annoyance in some business conversations. Can you recommend a good VoIP broadband booster?

I got better alternative than Skype. Its called Onesuite. Its pay as you go prepaid phone card and voip service rolled into one. Can be use with softphones (on your computer) or ATA devices (computer off). Better rates than Skype too. Their website is Onesuite.com

While Asterix and other IP phone systems may be a much more robust solution overall, it sounds like that kind of setup would be massive overkill for one person. A Skype connection with unlimited US calling and a normal landline phone number runs about $60/year. You'd have to check the international rates on their site, but it's not that expensive.

I use Vonage with a dedicated router and a regular phone. Runs about $18 a month with 600 mins to North America and most of Europe and cheap rates to the rest of the world. Been with them for quite a while and have been very happy. Also, I can take the hardware with me and anywhere i can get an ethernet connection to the web I can make calls like they're from home.
