I have never used Skype before except once for chatting to a guy whilst playing Far Cry 4 Co-Op and video was not needed.

I am going in to hospital for a few days and trying to set this up so my missus does not have to trail down to the hospital.

So far I have installed Skype on her PC and my Samsung tablet and if she calls there is video of me in the right hand corner of the video of her. If I call her all I am getting is full screen video of me.

    What Am I doing wrong?

    I don't have a concrete answer. Just a guess.
Ignoring the android element. Are you making a voice call or video call to her and is she accepting it as a voice call or a video call.

My first guess is that you are making a video call to her but she is only accepting it as a voice call. With only your camera being made available in this call Skype chooses to show it fullscreen instead of in a corner since there is nothing else to show besides your video. So the first port of call would be to check she is accepting the call as a video call.

As simple as that thanks. That is the video side of matters taken care of. But I cannot hear a call but it seems this is a known issue.

Yes, I have an icon appears telling me a call is incoming but no sound. I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1.

I assume you've already checked the sound settings. There are three volumes or more on android. Notifications/ringing, media playback and alarms. Whilst you may be able to hear your videos the ringer might be turned down.

I've had something similar to your problem recently (with SMS). I cannot remember the exact location or if it's possible in Skype but check the notification sound. Set the ringing tone within Skype to something else manually if you can.

I think on android you hit the volume rocker to make the little volume bar thing apear on the screen; at the far right is a cog, if you hit that you should be able to adjust the different volume settings.

If it isn't that, no idea, I'm pretty new to android.

    Spot on mate.

Checked all those three. Will check the other point you made. At the end of the day it really does not matter as I will arrange that she texts me first when she wants to Skype. Just annoys me that things just don't work as simply as they should or advertised as doing.

I have even looked at Googles hangouts but that was worse to set up and things need to really simple for my technophode partner of 71.

I have had a look at Skype. There isn't an option to change its notification sound but you can turn it on/off.

Have you had a look at Viber? Its another internet calling app that has a desktop counterpart. Facebook has a calling function too.

I was unaware that Facebook had this option. I will check it out later, thanks.

Facebook in their infinite wisdom have just told me that my device does not support video.
